GAP is the longest established gastroenterology practice in the Piedmont Triad area. This independent, physician-owned GI practice is looking for a Certified Coder/Billing Specialist. GAP evaluates new patients, performs consultations and conducts follow-up visits for chronic gastrointestinal conditions. Our offices draw and assess labs, administer injections and monitor medication therapies. We offer on-site infusion services and our clinical staff assist with a variety of in-office procedures. When appropriate, GAP schedules appointments for outpatient screening, diagnostic and/or treatment procedures. Our endoscopy centers are physician-owned outpatient ambulatory surgical centers which specialize in colon cancer screening and prevention as well as a number of other procedures including endoscopy, Interstim Bowel Control Therapy and Orbera gastric balloon weight loss therapy.

Requirements:

Primary responsibilities include utilizing coding and billing skills to assist with entering and/or processing procedure, hospital and office charges through initial charge entry or working in the Charge Review WQ. Helps to resolve edits in the Follow-up and Claim Edit work queues within the EPIC billing system. Additional duties may include miscellaneous reports and charge reconciliation. All of these duties will be completed with a high level of customer service to patients, insurance companies and coworkers.
Primary responsibilities include utilizing coding knowledge to review and resolve insurance denials from various insurance companies. This includes making contact with insurance companies via their online portal or via the telephone to identify the reason for the denial.

  • Assist with coding and posting of charges for endoscopy center procedures. This would include reviewing the pathology charges as provided via a spread sheet from Pathology Vendor and posting charges as appropriate.
  • Assist with reviewing and processing office and hospital charges in the Charge Review Work queue.
  • Participate in rotation to answer incoming billing calls from patients and process credit card payments made over phone.
  • Initiating and then tracking appeals with insurance companies as needed.
  • Follow up on claims that have had no response from insurance and assist with the resolution of claim edits within EPIC and claim edits received from the Clearinghouse.
  • Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of patient information.
  • Use customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and department meetings as scheduled.
  • Report errors of commission or omission, injuries and illnesses and adverse events to Revenue Cycle Manager.
  • Participate in in-services and continuing education to maintain knowledge and skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education and Experience Requirements

  • Certified Professional coder (CPC) or Certified Gastroenterology Coder (CGIC) and/or gastroenterology coding experience highly preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a billing position preferred.
  • Word processing and computer experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Hybrid work opportunity after 3–6-month orientation period. Team Member must be able to work in the office one weekday per week.
