Job Responsibilities/Duties
Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated organization engineering organization. WRPS was identified as "One of America's Safest Companies" in 2020; and was the recipient of the 2021 "Employer of the Year" by the Association of Washington Businesses.

Engineering at WRPS consists of process engineering, design engineering, nuclear safety, plant/system engineering, construction project engineering, procurement engineering, process and control system engineering, engineering standards/program implementation, and the Chief Technology Office. These areas support all areas of the tank farm mission including Retrievals, Production Operations, Field Projects, Waste Feed Delivery Projects, and long term innovations.

The Chemical Engineer will perform technical and programmatic activities in the evaluation and support of tank farm elements that impact the effectiveness of the waste feed delivery program and overall mission execution. Includes engineering support and evaluation of baseline scope work as well as evaluation of new technical and programmatic options that potentially improve the effectiveness of and decrease risk to the overall mission.

Primarily, this position will support Operations Research (OR) modeling activities, which includes:
  • Preparation of technical documents
  • Development and coding of Operations Research models
  • Data analysis and data management
  • Presentation of OR modeling results
  • Perform technical evaluations and studies to improve the effectiveness of the Tank Farm processes.
  • Perform work individually or in multi-discipline cross-functional teams; coordinating with multiple internal and external organizations including Production Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Tank Farm Projects, Mission Integration, ORP, DNFSB, Washington State Department of Ecology, and other external regulators and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications
Grade 14:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline or successful completion of degree by June 30, 2023.

Grade 15:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical Engineering, Physics or related technical discipline with
One (1) year related experience

Desired Qualifications
Experience in developing and analyzing Operations Research Models
Experience coding in Witness (Operations Research modeling)
Experience with chemical process operations and familiarity with fluid transfer systems
Experience coding in C#, C++, VBA, SQL and/or Python
Experience with Tableau
Experience with software Q/A
Experience with business intelligence and analytics

Grade 14:
Hiring Range Minimum: $69,413
Hiring Range Maximum: $87,538

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
