Job Summary

With Members always at the center of everything we do, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in collaboration with the CEO and other Executives will play a key role in shaping the future of the Credit Union as a visible strategic and operational leader, ensuring financial success through organic growth, segment and market expansions, and acquisition opportunities.

The CFO consistently demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the business, regulatory environment, balance sheet, and external factors. This leader upholds the long-standing culture of integrity, excellence, and engagement amongst their accounting, finance, and risk professionals, and advances their professional development.

Essential Functions

Strategic and Team Leadership

  • Provide leadership, management and vision necessary to develop the overall strategic direction of finance and risk in support of the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.
  • Effectively and regularly communicate the organization’s finance and risk strategy and performance to all stakeholders, including UFCU’s Board of Directors and Committees.
  • Serve as executive lead and liaison for the ALCO Committee consistent with its charter.
  • Function as a key strategic partner and thought leader regarding UFCU’s strategic outcomes and initiatives, and recommend and implement strategies to improve and enhance UFCU’s performance.
  • Ensure UFCU’s safety and soundness, including appropriate risk mitigation strategies and internal controls.
  • Demonstrate UFCU leadership standards through support for our People First culture, values, and behavioral expectations.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships throughout the organization.
  • Create and sustain a working environment that promotes trust, career and leadership development, openness, collaboration, accountability, challenging status quo, and continuous process improvements.

Operations and Compliance

  • Oversee all Finance, Accounting, Secondary Marketing, and Net Worth Management functions.
  • Lead the annual operating plan development, performance monitoring, reforecasting, and develop performance recommendations as part of UFCU’s strategic and operating rhythms.
  • Partner with other executives on UFCU’s growth strategy, including product and service offerings.
  • In partnership with the Executive team and Board of Directors, establish proper governance oversight and reporting of all financial and risk control areas and highlight concerns and recommendations for adjustments.
  • Ensure the timely, accurate and consistent completion of all financial, risk, management, and regulatory reports according to Board, management and regulatory expectations, as well as, GAAP.
  • Maintain the integrity of all finance and risk functions, processes, and systems, including proper governance oversight, reporting, and make improvement recommendations.

Other

  • Maintain strict adherence and compliance to all applicable laws, rules, regulations and internal controls, including but not limited to NCUA, Federal Reserve, Truth in Lending, Fair Lending, Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, UA Patriot Act, and OFAC.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes.
  • Complete required regulatory training as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or other relevant field
  • Active Certified Public Accountant License
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience leading finance and risk within a complex organization with increasing executive and management responsibilities
  • Minimum of 15 years of the following senior-level experience:
    • Setting strategy for and successfully leading a corporate division of a mission-driven company that is substantial in size and resources
    • In-depth experience in organizational effectiveness, risk management, leadership and supervision
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience interacting with members of the public, government/city leaders, and business community on behalf of an organization.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors.
  • Experience creating and maintaining high-performing, high integrity operations
  • Track record of inspiring, developing, coaching, mentoring, and motivating teams to peak performance
  • Expert knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution
  • Driven, fact-based, results-oriented and collaborative, with a proven track record for leading, aligning, and managing teams against high-performance objectives
  • Passion for building and sustaining professional relationships internally and externally
  • Must be bondable

Preferred Requirements

  • Master of Business Administration
  • Advanced knowledge of compliance with state and federal credit union laws and regulations
