JOB SUMMARY
At Houston Methodist, the Senior Clinical Outcomes Analyst is responsible for generating advanced analyses and reports on clinical outcomes data aggregation, analysis and reporting and other performance measures related to Houston Methodist activities and quality improvement initiatives. Effectively addresses analysis methodology and data implications to facilitate understanding and efficient utilization of report findings. This position identifies areas for improvement and assists entity leaders and physicians to develop strategies to improve performance. Collaborates with internal and external database developers and HM data reporting departments to identify analytical and reporting systems integration requirements and collaborative opportunities. Provides mentorship to other quality analysts and serves as a resource for advanced analytics functions.


PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 20%


  • Proactively and effectively develops and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, nursing, entity leaders, and their employees. Participates in making recommendations for improving working relationships in the work area. (EF)
  • Coordinates and facilitates the relationships between the various departments, committees, and taskforces necessary to implement quality improvement measurement initiatives. (EF)
  • Serves as a resource for advanced data analysis; guides other team members to assist with ways to source, aggregate, analyze, interpret, and/or display data, per management's input. Serves as a role model and mentors other team members. (EF)

SERVICE - 25%
  • Participates in project team meetings, interacts to advance projects and partners with internal customers to provide timely and accurate reports to physicians, nursing and entity leaders. (EF)
  • Effectively organizes and documents responsibilities and other activities for accomplishment in a timely manner; meets deadlines. (EF)
  • Provides consultation, advanced data analysis and project management for clinical and business stakeholders. Communicates technical/analytical concepts to others. (EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY - 40%
  • Develops and presents logical and comprehensive analyses evaluating performance utilizing applicable databases, reporting systems, and/or external benchmarking systems as appropriate. Participates in PI/QI efforts by providing datasets to assist leadership in the enhancement of quality improvement strategies. (EF)
  • Exhibits knowledge of and utilizes available databases/data sources for statistical reporting and data extraction as needed. (EF)
  • Works independently to lead and support the development and implementation of data reporting to meet the needs of system clinical programs, including but not limited to reports regarding information to meet regulatory requirements and research publication projects. Sets standards for the measurement, analysis, and reporting of adverse trends for review by appropriate stakeholders and assists in development of action plans for resolution as needed. (EF)

FINANCE - 10%
  • Understands hospital billing/reimbursement system as it relates to the departmental scope and utilizes all available Houston Methodist sources in evaluating clinical and financial performance. (EF)
  • Identifies cost saving and efficiency opportunities throughout the system and develops monitoring and reporting mechanisms to present to and share with the leadership as appropriate. Maintains current knowledge of external agencies and reporting organizations, federal and state regulatory requirements, health plan, billing and reimbursement as needed. (EF)
  • Provides analysis of cost and quality metrics that show ROI which may guide PI/QI or executive leadership in strategic decisions. (EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 5%
  • Generates and communicates new ideas and suggestions that improve quality, service, or finance.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, professional affiliations, etc. to keep abreast of the latest trends in healthcare as relevant.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor's degree in business, statistics, finance, healthcare administration or related field
  • Master's degree preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of five years of experience in an analyst or related role
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the health care industry

  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical analysis techniques; knowledge of specialized software in use at Houston Methodist preferred
  • General knowledge of Performance Improvement methodologies and evidence of application
  • Advanced skill in use of spreadsheet, relational database and word processing software Advanced knowledge of database design and database query languages in use at Houston Methodist preferred
  • Demonstrated success in the development, analysis, interpretation, and management of a variety of complex data sources to include facets of decision support/financial reporting, clinical disease state outcome tracking, clinical data, and/or health plan related profiling/reporting
  • Ability to independently analyze and solve problems
  • Interpersonal skills for interfacing with all levels of customers and collaborating across clinical and non-clinical departments
  • Ability to multi-task with good attention to detail
  • Ability to enhance reporting effectiveness and efficiency
