Clinical Educator and Infection Control Nurse
Job description
Serve as a nursing educator to foster the growth and development of nursing staff. Assist in leading the onboarding process for new nursing staff to ensure they are set up for success. Coordinate employee health requirements and ensure infection control is practiced throughout the organization.
Position Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited School of Registered Nursing. Excellent computer skills required. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
Experience:
Three years of experience in a clinical setting required. Experience with current electronic medical records preferred. Experience with Rural Health Clinic regulations preferred. Knowledgeable about workflow and processes that promote efficiency.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid West Virginia RN License; Current BLS Certification; Certification as an Infection Preventionist (IP). If not currently certified in IP, will obtain within the first 6 months of hire.
Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer
Supervises: Non-supervisory
Job Requirements:
- Collaborate with medical providers, patient care staff, and unit management in the planning, implementation and delivery of educational curricula
- Participate in the interviewing and selection process for new nursing staff members
- Develop and lead the orientation process of new hires to ensure proper training in the workflow, EHR, and nursing protocols
- Educate staff on proper documentation and intake procedures
- Observe staff in the return demonstration of all required initial and annual competencies
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date education records for their personnel files
- Instrumental in the implementation of new processes, policies, and protocols
- Serve as a “superuser” as new technology and equipment become available
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote workplace safety and environmental practices
- Assist with the creation, review, and revision of process of competencies, policies, etc. to help improve the quality of care
- Work collaboratively with the Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Medical Officer, and Director of Quality for process improvement opportunities
- Identify, create, and employ best practices for sanitation and infection management
- Creative problem solver and innovator to prevent the spread of bacteria, viruses, and other potential contamination
- Partner with providers, purchasing, finance, quality, and all ancillary services to recommend and present new products to help reduce the risk of infection
- Performs regular rounds to assess the compliance of the organization; provides constructive feedback to staff to correct deficiencies
- Provides education to the organization on infection prevention measures
- Act as a professional role model and mentor to all staff
- Assist Pod Leaders in the identification of educational needs for individual employees
- Coordinate employee health initiatives for current and new hires (including annual initial TB testing and Hep B, Tdap, and flu vaccinations)
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee health records (i.e. respiratory FIT testing, vaccines, etc.)
- Oversee any exposures and ensures employees and/or patients receive appropriate testing in accordance with RCBC policies
- Other duties as assigned
