Position Summary

The Medical Assistant supports the patient care mission by carrying out medical and administrative tasks in accordance with their scope of practice. Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records information on patients' charts. In addition, coordinates and provides patient support services such as scheduling appointments, answering telephones, greeting patients and registering patients in a patient care area.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • The Certified/Registered Medical Assistant works with the licensed nursing personnel in caring for the Pinehurst Medical Clinic patients. Records vital signs and a chief complaint for the visit on the patient flow sheet form.
  • Runs spirometry tests and EKGs on patients and assist the Primary Care Physicians when they are examining patients
  • Reviews patient records, assuring they are complete with regard to previously ordered studies such as laboratory reports, x-ray reports, electrocardiogram reports, G.I. reports, CT scan reports, bronchoscopy reports, ER visits and physician dictation.
  • Assures that examining rooms assigned are properly equipped with supplies and also assures that all equipment is in working order and orders supplies as needed.
  • Understands pre-certification process and may call for pre-certifications. Works with patient account representatives and secretary to facilitate referrals.
  • Works between the secretary and nursing personnel to keep the patient flow going smoothly.
  • Practices within in scope of practice for medical/clinic assistants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education (Including Licenses and Certifications):

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant Certification Required.
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification



Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse, under the direction of the physician(s), carries out specific nursing duties including the recording of vital signs and assisting with examinations and diagnostic procedures as requested. Performs other nursing activities described in the Licensed Practical Nurse Act. Administers prescribed medications and performs rehabilitative nursing duties.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient records, assuring they are complete with regard to previously ordered studies such as laboratory reports, x-ray reports, electrocardiogram reports, etc.
  • Assures that examining rooms assigned are properly equipped in terms of disposable supplies and also assures that all equipment is in working order.
  • Understands the precertification process and may call for precertifications. Works with patient account representatives to facilitate referrals and patient care. Alerts physician to needed documentation in charting.
  • Gathers patient information for vital signs, medication reconciliation, allergies, etc.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and procedures as necessary.
  • Maintains patient and practice confidentiality.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times with patients, caregivers, physicians, and coworkers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education (Including Licenses and Certifications):

  • Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
  • BLS/CPR certification required. ACLS/PALS is required in specialty areas as determined by accrediting bodies (Cardiology, Infusion, Rheumatology Infusion, CT & GI Endo)

Experience:

  • Two years’ experience as an LPN in a clinical/ambulatory setting preferred.
