Coatings Formulating Specialist
Job description
JOB SUMMARY:
Directs the technical program objectives including color matching and formula development for multiple coatings to achieve within a specified time and to the highest quality standards
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Manage and develop paint formulations to color match specific color targets. Must be proficient in developing metallic and effect colors.
Manage and develop formulations to meet specific engineering standards and manufacturing requirements.
Direct creating color standards, measuring color readings of standards, and logging standards using excel based documents.
Must be able to mix paint samples accurately. Spray paint panels for testing within given parameters and conduct physical property testing.
Create design of experiments and draw consequential conclusions. Document findings and make recommendations.
Manage projects for key customers and communicate status update to all stakeholders.
Create Standard Operation Procedure documentation for specific customers and manufacturing locations.
Follow a detail sheet to quality control batches of paint. Generate certificates of analysis in excel, save as a PDF, and file into folders on a common drive and sharepoint.
Log customer feedback in formula files, color match priority log, standard serial Log, and color development matrices.
Create technical information sheets for various customers.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
BS or BA degree preferred.
Excellent color matching and product formulation skills with 5 or more years of experience.
Project Management with 2 or more years of experience.
Experienced with using a spray gun and can spray panels at a high-quality level
Experienced with using various lab equipment to conduct physical testing (viscosity cup, direct film thickness meter, adhesion and gloss meters). Ability to use a color spectrophotometer.
Proficient excel and computer skills. Strong math skills (percentages, fractions, unit conversions, and develop formulas in excel), attention to detail, and folder navigation.
Good written and oral interpersonal communication skills.
Decisive and prone to action; must be quality-oriented and customer focused.
Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects, and maintain a positive attitude.
