Position Title: CWS Shelter Monitor
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Reports to: CWS Manager
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Hours: Part-time, day, evening and night shifts, seasonal
Date: Late November 2022 – March 2023
Position Summary:
Cold Weather Shelter Monitors provide on-site supervision of the CWS, including monitoring guest attendance and behavior and coordinating with volunteers and hotel staff in provision of all aspects of shelter services.

Immediate Shifts Available:
- Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday; 5:00pm - 11pm
- Sunday and Monday; 10am - 6pm
- Saturday and Sunday; 11pm - 7am
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitors guest attendance and behavior, maintaining awareness of guests’ adherence to CWS rules and cleanliness of hotel room
- Collaborates with volunteers to coordinate provision of meals and any other services provided by host congregations.
- Re-directs guests who display conduct or language which are unacceptable in the shelter setting.
- Does intake for new guests and maintains daily records for each guest.
- Takes lead in responding to disruptive behaviors or medical emergencies of guests.
- Works with hotel or congregation staff to create a safe, calm environment for all guests
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Completes shift reports and communicates with other CWS staff and CWS Manager to maintain continuity of service
Agency-wide Responsibilities:
- Participates in supervision, in-service training, and staff meetings
- Maintains good working relationships with co-workers and positively contributes to group morale
- Completes all administrative duties including time sheets, leave requests, etc.
- Participates in special task forces, committees, or special projects as needed
- Uses appropriate channels of communication to resolve conflicts with other staff
- Interacts with staff, clients, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
Education and Experience:
- AA degree or equivalent.
- Experience working with homeless population highly desired.
- Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse issues a plus.
- Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Extensive experience working with homeless may be substituted for educational requirement.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Empathy and compassion.
- Understanding of mental illness, substance abuse and homeless issues desired.
- Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Work Conditions:
- Work in a local hotel CWS staff room. Walking throughout the hotel to monitor guests.
- Hours include weekends and holidays.
- This is an emergency shelter and staff attendance is required in inclement weather

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
