Job Description Summary

As part of the fast-paced and progressive Combustion Module Engineering Team, the Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, ownership, and analysis of combustion hardware for New Units & Upgrades. Additionally, the Mechanical Design Engineer’s responsibilities may include working with the Cross Functional Engineering teams and Global Supply Chain teams. Working with repair, Product Cost Out (PCO) and product definition management.
The Combustion Module Mechanical Design Engineer will ensure their hardware will meet Product and Design requirements, by working closely with multiple engineering teams. These responsibilities provide opportunities for both analytical and hands-on work.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Implement the design or evaluation of assigned hardware using sound engineering practices and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Participate and present in formal and informal technical reviews for all design tasks and output with Controlled Title Holders, following the documented New Product Introduction (NPI) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Processes.
  • Maintain broad awareness of efforts within the team to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer / program needs.
  • Communicate technical issues within Turbine Module team and as well as with interfacing organizations such as Clearances, Aerodynamics, Heat Transfer, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Suppliers, Materials Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Customer Service Engineering.
  • Promote professional growth through coaching and mentoring.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering / Science from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 1 year of professional experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering / Science field).
  • Minimum of 1 year in mechanical design engineering experience.

Desired Characteristics

  • Gas Turbine Mechanical Component Design Experience.
  • Basic understanding of Engineering principles and the ability to utilize these skills.
  • Finite element analysis experience.
  • Experience using design tools such ANSYS or Nastran and modeling software tools such as UG-NX, SolidWorks, Fusion, AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with program languages such as MATLAB, Python, VBA Excel, C programming.
  • Metal Additive Manufacturing Experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross functional teams and interface effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Edison / Advanced Course in Engineering graduate
