Hamilton County Schools has a school leadership organization structured with Learning Community Superintendents reporting to the Deputy Superintendent. The Learning Communities are aligned with K-12 feeder patterns across the district and allow the district to be more responsive to diverse community needs, build capacity across the feeder patterns, build stronger community ties, and clarify a single point of contact for parents and community stakeholders to engage with the central office.

We are seeking a dynamic instructional leader to oversee a Learning Community composed of K-12 schools. The Learning Community Superintendent will provide leadership, direction, and support to principals inside their assigned community. While developing a unique culture of collaboration, the Learning Community Superintendent will also ensure that the work of the learning community is aligned with the overarching vision of the district, as well as meeting the goals of the strategic plan. This position will also establish and maintain a culture of excellence and high expectations in the Learning Community, such that assigned schools are the preferred choice for families to meet their K-12 educational needs.


Responsibilities


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience in:

  • Creating a customer-focused climate to provide quality services and support to schools and the community. Prioritizes family and community engagement across all schools.
  • Functioning as a “face of the district,” while developing strong community partners through intentional outreach and high visibility at school and community events.
  • Understanding and communicating the state accountability framework and school grading report card.
  • Developing and implementing long and short term plans, goals, and objectives for the Learning Community focused on improving overall student achievement and post-secondary readiness.
  • Understanding and utilizing McREL Balanced Leadership Framework to support principals and improve school performance.
  • Providing leadership to school principals in all matters related to the areas of implementing successful instructional programs, school organization, and school management.
  • Facilitating the school-based administration and communication of policies and programs.
  • Aligning school improvement efforts and professional support with the HCS Strategic Plan.
  • Evaluating best practices in conjunction with developing and preparing recommendations to improve efficiency and system-wide continuous improvement.
  • Appling research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.
  • Administering the curriculum and instruction budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Adhering to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
  • Using computers and other technology to enter and access information related to essential job functions.
  • May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Knowledge/Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in the appropriate field; Specialist or Doctorate degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in school administration or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
  • Tennessee teaching certification preferred.
  • Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.


Skills/Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
  • Knowledge and experience using data-driven decision making that ensures high quality professional development for school administrators and system leaders.


Compensation:
Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
