Summary of Position:
The Controller is accountable for all financial control and management of accounting systems for Land’s End and its subsidiary Kenai Landing, Inc. This includes the design, implementation and monitoring of daily accounting and deposit procedures in conformity with GAAP standards; the development of financial reports and internal financial controls; auditing of departmental performance and compliance with established accounting procedures. Special emphasis is on maintaining security of personnel and financial information and on implementing an effective system of checks and balances in daily operations to create accountability.
The Controller directly oversees all accounting office staff and has direct authority over company department heads with respect to financial controls, accounting, and auditing procedures (food and liquor cost for example). The Controller has the authority to implement all financial policies and/or controls within Land’s End properties without the consent of the General Manager, however collaboration is expected.
The Controller prepares quarterly report recap, sales tax returns, 1099’s, insurance audits, and other required government reports, and assembles year-end financials for the company CPA to prepare the tax return. The Controller is expected to directly supervise the activities of those within the accounting department, and to audit performance regularly to spot deficiencies. The Controller shall prepare the reports attached as Addendum A “Required Reports.”
Finally, due to the Controller’s unique skill set and knowledge of company finances, the Controller will play a key role with strategic planning and overall business development. The Controller will support the President, CFO and GMs in their operational decision-making processes.
Essential Functions:
Deliver joy to our customers every day.
Directly manage, train, and supervise Revenue, Payables and Payroll clerks.
Oversee effective filing system for payables, personnel, receivables, and venders.
Maintain separate filing system for ongoing accounts, such as loans, from annual and year-to-year business.
Audit and/or prepare payroll.
Prepare quarterly sales tax and audit quarterly/annual payroll reports, such as 941, W-2 and ESC reports.
Oversee insurance audits.
Perform daily bank deposits and cash position.
Manage sweep accounts and monthly / annual bank reconciliation.
Design and implement internal accounting controls for all properties.
Prepare weekly and monthly reports for President or CEO as directed.
Compile annual data in preparation for annual tax return.
Audit and oversee AR/AP daily, including deposits posted to revenue journal.
Audit reconciliation of credit cards.
Perform monthly reconciliation of bank statements
Perform line level accounting functions and backup accounting staff, as necessary.
Oversee internal cashiering services, vault audits and management agreements.
Manage Gift Certificate/Gift Card procedures, including issuance, redemption, and audit. Audit and reconcile monthly.
Allocate revenue and expenses between companies and departments.
Accountable for reconciliation and accuracy of all notes and financial accounts, including those on the balance sheet and income statement, and all vendor and customer accounts.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
At least two years' bookkeeping and management experience in a for-profit company or equivalent combination of applicable experience and education.
Throughout knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong administrative, organizational, and analytic skills; knowledge of Quick Books and payroll software; and web-based storage and accounts-payable software.
Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and coordinate operations in personnel supervision, facilities management; and budget management.

Position Type/Hour of Work This is a full-time, exempt position.
Hours of work are no less than 45 hours per week.
