    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES


    Provide program design, implementation and evaluation of intensive enrichment programs that directly mitigate the impact of learning due to the “COVID slide” and fosters high levels of literacy achievement for all students. The position will ensure that all aspects of programs are implemented with fidelity and instructional quality. Additionally, this position is responsible for coordinating, planning, developing and monitoring the Reading/Language Arts programs across grades K-12 for the district. Employee guides Literacy Specialists and Instructional Coaches in ensuring that instruction is aligned with the Battle Creek Way and Michigan State Standards. He/she ensures consistency and equity of literacy instruction and academic recovery across the district.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develops, implements and monitors the District’s overall learning recovery programming (including summer programs) and ensures alignment with the District goal of eliminating disproportionality in student outcomes across the District.
    • Leads the development and implementation of enrichment programs that demonstrably mitigate the student achievement gap created by the “Covid slide” for students in grades K-12 including the administration of virtual learning programs.
    • Provide leadership in the identification and implementation of instructional practices, delivery systems, and formative assessments that maximize student growth in reading.
    • Provide district-wide professional development for instructional staff in reading pedagogy and disciplinary literacy.
    • Provide leadership in a wide range of reading assessments, analysis of reading assessment data, and reading intervention programming.
    • Engage and lead staff in employing a multi-tiered intervention and problem-solving model at the district, building, classroom, and individual student levels.
    • Support the curriculum renewal and evaluation process for literacy PK-12, with alignment to Common Core State Standards and/or other appropriate national benchmarks and standards
    • Work in conjunction with other district departments to facilitate and support literacy development and implementation across all programs
    • Serves as the facilitator of the district-based Professional Learning Community for Instructional Coaches, Literary Specialist and Literacy Tutors
    • Facilitates continuous improvement cycles through formalized goal setting and alignment/convergence of work across departments.
    • Collaborates, summarizes, and evaluates feedback and reports regarding grant-funded programs
    • Meets regularly with district personnel, curriculum facilitators, and principals to monitor and support literacy implementation
    • Coordinates and provides a variety of district-wide professional development opportunities
    • Ensures training for reading/English Language Arts teachers
    • Evaluates the need for and assists with the design of new course offerings and guidelines for student placement
    • Ensures that the performance evaluation system aligns with formalized goal setting
    • Plans and oversees summer curriculum writing as it relates to learning recovery and literacy
    • Develops and supports district-wide literacy initiatives
    • Provides monthly training and support for Instructional Coaches, Literacy Specialists and Literacy Tutors
    • Coordinates work of school counselors to ensure student academic success.
    • Serves as liaison for Early College and Dual enrollment programs
    • Stay current on research and best practices in the area of reading pedagogy.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s degree with courses in educational administration, evaluation, testing, planning or instruction
    • Five years of successful performance as a public school education administrator
    • Demonstrated in teaching, designing and building literacy curriculum; developing assessments and analyzing student performance data.
    • Demonstrated experience developing differentiated instructional strategies that address achievement gap
    • Demonstrated experience creating, organizing and leading professional learning experiences for teachers and ancillary staff.
    • Evidence of successful experience in planning and directing programming including budget development
    • Evidence of professional development as required by the State of Michigan as appropriate
    • Technology skills at a level capable of creating spreadsheets, data reports, and other relevant information
