Position: Counselor’s Aide

About the Center: The Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center of St. Clair County is located in East St. Louis, IL. The Center has been in operation since 1957 serving the needs of children, adolescents, and adults.

Description: The Counselor’s Aide is responsible for on-site supervision of the residents of the residential facility, directing their activities. Responsible for performing paraprofessional duties related to client and program activities.

Duties:

· Check rooms, monitor the unit and document major events of the shift

· Conduct non-activity groups

· Assist the counselors in individual and group sessions

· Answer the phone

· Transport clients when necessary

· Complete written reports as necessary

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and work with clients and families

· Ability to exercise sound judgment in the performance of assigned duties

· Ability to cooperate, network effectively and maintain contact with community agencies over the telephone

· Ability to work well under pressure

· Willingness to learn about addiction and educate the clients about addiction

· Ability to establish and maintain rapport and provide therapeutic intervention

· Ability to maintain strict client and program confidentiality

· Skills necessary to plan and execute a variety of socialization and recreational activities

· Ability to function within prescribed policies and procedures

· Working knowledge of computers

Reports to: Substance Abuse Program Coordinator

Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Minimum of one (1) year related experience desired.

Must obtain food handler certificate within 3 months of hire

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 per hour
