Job description
As a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner 1, you will provide safe and therapeutic care in holistic and systemic way to include the assessment and overall management of care for critically ill patients under the supervision of an MD. To help achieve our mission, you will exercise independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice/Protocol for Nurse Practitioners. Your ability to demonstrate respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while using an integrated approach to achieve desired patient outcomes is of vital importance. Utilizing evidenced-based standards, guidelines and protocols for care delivery is required.

- Performs and documents comprehensive physical and psychological exams of patients to identify priority care needs. Assumes clinical management for the critically ill cardiovascular patient population in collaboration with physicians.
- Provides patient and family education. Evaluates and documents patient responses to care and evaluates impact of illness on individual health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns and family/social relationships while establishing a health promotion strategy.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills and assists in the resolution of conflict among healthcare team members, patients and families.
- Facilitates communication among departments to ensure continuity of care and establishes collegial relationships with physicians and other healthcare providers.
- Assists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations while integrating evidence based research findings into clinical practice.
- Maintains data integrity and compliance with data requirements in the professional society benchmarking system (STS).
- Recognizes behaviors that impact team functionality and implements strategies to optimize teamwork while serving as a mentor for team members and facilitating the understanding of the role of the Nurse Practitioner for other healthcare providers.
- Identifies ongoing educational needs and actively participates in educational programs to enhance knowledge and skill base.
