PT Facility Custodian I – Nelson Center

Position Title: Part Time Facility Custodian I
Reporting Authority: Superintendent of Maintenance Operations or designee
Classification: Non-Exempt – Non-Union
Salary: $13.00 per hour
Position Summary:
Position is responsible for performing all custodian and maintenance functions as assigned or outlined to ensure cleanliness and overall physical appearance of the Facility, inside and out. The position is responsible for custodial duties, some mechanical, general maintenance, housekeeping and special projects pertaining to the custodial and maintenance operations of the Nelson Center facility (e.g., building maintenance, ice rink maintenance and pool maintenance). This position reports to and takes direction from the Maintenance Foreman, Facility Supervisors, and Superintendent of Maintenance Operations or his designee.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Performs manual work at the direction of the reporting authority or designee, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Prepare/setting up for special events, activities and/or programs.
- Cleaning of the facility and grounds (mowing, weed control, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, restrooms, cleaning fixtures, trash removal, etc).
- Monitor facility inside and out to ensure cleanliness, general housekeeping, and repair standards are being achieved.
- Identify, repair, and maintain facility functions inside and outside of facility and grounds, and assist with identifying safety hazards and report deficiencies.
- Identify, communicate, and help enforce district policies and procedures, for the safety of the general public and district employees.
- Perform minor repair work in areas of painting, landscaping, operation of light equipment as needed and assigned, power washers, weed eaters, mowers, and other areas.
- Responsible for oversight, maintenance, repair and related functions required to properly maintain two indoor ice arenas and an outdoor swim facility and Fun Shop building, as designated.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by reporting authority.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be able to read and comprehend relevant policies, operational procedures, safety guidelines or other guidelines/standards of facility operations.
- Must be able to perform simple math and measurement calculations, long hand and with available calculators or other devices.
General Requirements:
- Must be able to read and write and have good command of the English language.
- Good oral and written communication.
- Physical capabilities – lifts 50 pounds, squat, bend and move as necessary for the job.
- Must be able to perform basic mathematics.
- Must have basic proficiency of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Must possess professional phone skills and work well with the public.
- Must present a neat and professional appearance.
- Responsible to follow policies and procedures outlined in Springfield Park District employee manual.
