We are ranked as one of Computerworld 's Top Places to Work in IT 5 years running, and we are seeking a experienced data center facilities manager to work with a dynamic and fast paced team in the operation of our multiple enterprise data centers. This includes handling daily operations, planning for future enhancements, and contributing to facility projects. In this role, you will collaborate with a team of outstanding data center, storage, server, network, and virtualization engineers to enable the design and implementation of services and solutions. Your work will be impactful, and enable groundbreaking research, innovation and application of solutions supporting the Laboratory’s mission.
As a Data Center Facilities Manager, you will...
- Provide data center design and layout, implementation of data center equipment, physically mount hardware in racks, connect cables, and resolve data center configuration issues.
- Maintain and upgrade Data Center server and network environments, including development of comprehensive reference architectures and support documents.
- Provide architectural guidance, direction, and mentorship to team members as a domain authority.
- Collaborate with APL Facilities department to develop and complete preventative maintenance activities supporting Enterprise data centers.
- Perform physical inventory assessments and update Data Center Information Management (DCIM) application.
- Lead and coordinate activities which include installation, de-installation, moves and other changes (MAC) of network equipment, fiber optic and copper cabling, connectivity and cable management.
- Participate in the management of data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...
- A Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent years of related professional work experience.
- At least 7 years of experience with Enterprise Data Center Facilities Management in an enterprise setting.
- Experience with data center layout and configuration and managing an enterprise class data center.
- Demonstrated communication effectiveness, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to a diverse audience.
- Ability to independently resolve complex problems using current job knowledge, research data, and external resources.
- Are able to obtain Top Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Building Industry Consulting Service International (Bicsi) Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification.
- Knowledge of TIA-942 standards and other applicable standards for Data Center Management.
- Experience establishing a new data center, configured to the latest standards.
