Job Summary
The Design and Certification Engineer is the primary owner of concurrent projects that include system design and certification for aircraft preconditioning systems and subcomponent parts, including improvement of existing designs and certification compliance of existing and new products. The engineer will collaborate with a team of fellow engineer subject matter experts (SMEs), reporting to departmental leadership and key stakeholders to determine project pathways and roadmaps. The ideal candidate has prior professional field experience in Aerospace, Commercial and/or General Aviation (GA). In addition, the candidate would be well-served to have a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-certificated Airframe and/or Powerplant Mechanic (A&P) or equivalent military qualification issued by Department of Defense (DoD).
Key Deliverables:
1) Efficiently and professionally manage concurrent design projects within Hartzell and external customers
a. Manage milestones
b. Communicate status to larger project team
2) Collaborate with leadership and key stakeholders to ensure designs help further business objectives
3) Test all designs and prototypes to ensure designed functionality
First Year Success Factors
1) Learn the capabilities of various Hartzell analytical tools
2) Develop a working relationship with manufacturing and the sales group in order to support our products and customers
3) Learn the Hartzell product line and internal technical data systems
4) Manage a number of concurrent project assignments using Microsoft Project and Access data bases
5) Manage engineering changes in Hartzell’s ERP, MRP and PDM software systems
Requirements:Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering; or equivalent experience
Technical Competencies
1) Demonstrated understanding of related product manufacturing processes, aircraft manufacturing and flight department operational procedures.
2) Working knowledge of the FAA organizational structure, policies, guidelines and requirements to lead to Type and Supplemental Type airworthiness approvals
a. Rules applicable to aircraft parts and products
b. Roles and Responsibilities of the Aircraft Certification Office (AC))
c. Manufacturing Inspection District office MIDO)
d. Flight Standards District Office (FSDO)
e. Aircraft Evaluation Group (AEG)
f. Type and Supplemental Type Certification (TC and STC) processes and change product rule for alternations and modification
to previous type certified aircraft.
3) Proficient Computer Skills (MS-Office minimum); proficiency with AutoCAD ad standard drafting platforms
4) Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and/or schedules
5) Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, and presentation
