ABOUT THE POSITION: The UAH College of Nursing (UAH CON) is seeking a full-time director for the proposed Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program. The director must be eligible for the rank of Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor. The position requires a mixture of administrative and teaching duties. This is a 12-month position, with reappointment in two years, based on performance, availability of funding, and receiving accreditation.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (DNP, DNAP, or Ph.D., or equivalent), an unencumbered license as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) in Alabama, and at least five years of CRNA practice. Candidates must have experience in program development, evaluation, and accreditation. Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratories, and clinical settings; knowledge of the profession, including practice issues, procedures, and regulations, is required. Candidates must be proficient communicators and problem solvers to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community. Candidates must have skills in goal setting and team building; analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate program activities; independent initiative.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The full-time Program Director has responsibility and authority for the overall administration and implementation of the Nurse Anesthesia (NA) Program in accordance with the requirement and policies of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, the University and the clinical affiliates. We seek candidates who will contribute to the College of Nursing's mission, vision, and core values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion. In the faculty role, the director is expected to engage in active teaching and learning strategies, i.e., flipped classroom and unfolding case studies, and use Canvas, UAH’s Learning Management System, for all courses. The director is expected to teach using best practices, advise students to guide and retain them at UAH, maintain an active program of scholarship/research to contribute to nursing science and the translation of research evidence into practice, maintain their nursing practice to stay current, build community partnerships, participate on college and university committees, and chair DNP projects or Ph.D. dissertations, as appropriate.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE: The College of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The College offers pre-licensure BSN, accelerated BSN, ADN to BSN, ADN to MSN, MSN tracks in nursing administration, education, and nurse practitioner tracks in family and adult-gerontological acute care, post-graduate certificates, and DNP programs. The College of Nursing also offers a Joint Nursing Science Ph.D. program with the University of Alabama. The College's total fall 2022 enrollment was just under 1,000 students across the degree programs. Extensive distance education programs are offered. The College of Nursing currently cooperates with more than 1300 sites for clinical education.
