About Our Job
The Department of Public Safety is seeking candidates for a Director to lead data analytics for the Denver Police Department, within its Analytic Services Bureau. We are seeking team members with a passion for supporting public safety, law enforcement, and good governance via meaningful and actionable analyses.
The Analytic Services Bureau Director will lead, oversee and participate in the collection, collation, analysis, evaluation and dissemination of crime data to discover developing trends, patterns and changes in criminal activity through the use of mapping, analytical software and other means deemed acceptable. Additionally, this position will require research on methodology and current practices regarding crime analysis, as well as making recommendations for improvement and implementation. This will be accomplished through mentorship, tool and product building, fulfilling public records requests, and promoting overall quality, consistency, and collaboration among department leadership, and the analysts team. This position will be housed in the Police Administration Building.
DPD’s Analytic Services Bureau is a large, collaborative unit of nineteen positions spanning four grades. Work locations for team members includes the patrol districts, Special Operations, Strategic Investigations, Major Crimes, and Traffic Operations. Based on assignment and standing, flexible schedules, including 9/80 work weeks and partial work-from-home, may be available. During a new employee’s probationary period, we expect this position to work in-office full-time. This position is not fully remote, nor will it become so.
Job responsibilities include:

The Director of the Denver Police Department (DPD) Analytic Services Bureau (ASB) manages the unit of 19 analysts and the department’s numerous data initiatives.

Prioritize important short and long-term administrative and operational needs including providing timely and accurate state and federally mandated reports; ensuring data and information integrity through ongoing quality assurance and control; supporting multi-agency initiatives; planning and preparing for future technological and analytical needs and challenges; promoting staff training and elevating overall professionalism and work products.

The ASB Director plays a key role in the consideration and construction of data-driven crime and social harm prevention strategies that are employed by the DPD and is also a main conduit for partnership and information needed by other department partners.

Lead a team of professionals who specialize in transforming complex, high-volume digital data into meaningful, actionable information to address the full spectrum of public safety.

Identify novel opportunities and strategies for prevention, collaborate with partner agencies on related and parallel initiatives, as well as augment investigations and supporting successful prosecution of crimes.

Develop analyst team with training and certification on analytical tools to assist in major investigations and the expansion of publicly available DPD data and dashboards.

Work with other city agencies for data needed for reports

Consult with executive team to identify needs, priorities and opportunities

Coaches, mentors and challenges staff. Champions continuous improvement, including devising new strategies and new opportunities.

About You
Our ideal candidate will have:

Three years experience in research, program planning, policy formulation, and data analysis

Ability to interpret, understand, and apply Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.

Outstanding written and oral presentation skills, ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences including elected officials, technical staff, and the public; ability to prepare clear and concise reports.

Data visualization experience and the ability to translate data into actionable and understandable information.

Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of Supervisory experience.
