Job Purpose
To serve as the company’s vehicle maintenance leader responsible for the maintenance culture and results in over 3,000 vehicles operating in multiple states. The Director of Maintenance is a member of the company’s senior management team and interacts frequently with all levels of management and employees.
Major Responsibilities
1. Directs and responsible for the delivery of the company’s vehicle maintenance program utilizing measurable results. Responsible for roll-out and utilization of Vehicle Maintenance System.
2. Directs and creates the design, development, organization and communication of all maintenance policies and procedures. Develop and lead the maintenance audit process to ensure compliance of programs, policies and procedures.
3. Direct and coach the location and Regional staff related to vehicle maintenance and fleet matters.
4. Assess and oversee effective manpower planning. Assist in the hiring and development of key vehicle maintenance personnel. Directs and leads the training programs to ensure we have highly qualified and skilled vehicle maintenance teams.
5. Analyzes location and company vehicle maintenance statistics. Leads the development and implementation of action plans to address deficiencies and adverse trends.
6. Provides daily guidance and monitoring of all regional budgeting and vehicle maintenance spend working with locations and regional staff. Annual budget preparation and inventory control.
7. Ensure preventative maintenance program is implemented and followed across the enterprise to drive optimum cost-effective fleet spend.
8. Manages vendors related to vehicle maintenance and fleet to obtain optimum service and cost effectiveness. Ensures all warranty dollars are received and recall work is completed and processed.
9. Acts as ranking company representative in dealing with government agencies on vehicle maintenance and fleet matters affecting the company. Interacts with Local, State and Federal levels.
10. Monitor and ensure compliance of all vehicle maintenance and facility requirements, regulations and laws including DOT, EPA and OSHA.
11. Manage fleet needs, specifications and purchasing.
12. Other duties and responsibilities as directed by the CEO.

Minimum Education & Certifications Required
1. Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
2. Vocational degree in technical engineering or equivalent in engine/vehicle maintenance and repair.
3. Additional education in business desired.

Experience & Skills Required
1. Minimum of 10 years management and supervision of a company-wide vehicle maintenance program with a fleet of more than 1,000 vehicles and multiple vehicle maintenance shops.
2. Medium duty fleet experience required.
3. History of increasingly responsible vehicle maintenance management experience.
4. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
5. Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations.
6. Ability to participate and facilitate group meetings.
7. Ability to challenge current thinking and improve the vehicle maintenance performance and culture.
8. Experience in fleet and vehicle maintenance budgeting and financial responsibility.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
