Job description
The Director of Merchandise is responsible for the overall management, direction, buying, advertising, planogramming, and coordination of an assigned category of merchandise and activities. This position will optimize the achievement of sales, inventory turnover, cost controls, profit growth and other buying and merchandising goals and objectives. The Director of Merchandise will oversee a select group of Category Managers.
Essential Job Functions The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Develop long-range divisional merchandising strategy
- Guide direction for the merchandising and merchandise planning teams for the development and execution of financial plans and forecasts
- Develop product strategies and ensure execution and success
- Evaluate business performance to the financial plan during monthly forecast reviews and continuously improve as necessary to ensure team’s ability to exceed plan
- Establish and optimize strategic vendor partnerships
- Develop marketing strategy to drive profitable sales and grow market share
- Participate in evaluation and realignment of corporate space to maximize sales productivity and customer experience
- Set divisional merchandising direction to maximize the in-store customer experience and space productivity
- Proactively assess and monitor the competitive landscape and marketplace to determine potential opportunities or threats and develop strategies to address
- Identify and ensure a pipeline of new trends, brands, and products to meet customer and market needs
- Develop launch strategies and assist team with new business and brand opportunities
- Champion initiatives that support Fleet Farm’s growth and competitive edge
- Lead, coach and develop direct and cross-functional teams to achieve financial objectives and prepare them for success and broader responsibilities
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience required
- 7 or more years of category buying/manager experience required
- Prior leadership experience preferred
- Experience with retail environment preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to handle sensitive data
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent computer skills, with MS Office Applications: Word, Excel, PP.
- Excellent problem solving skills
