The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System: Position: Position: Director of Safety and Security Services
Job Description:
This is an administrative position in the Fall River Public Schools, with district-wide responsibilities to lead the security department daily in providing a safe and secure learning environment such that students and staff engage in the educational process without fear or intimidation. The director will also oversee the security needs for all extracurricular activities as needed. Private functions within the confines of the campus and buildings must be provided as well. This position reports to the Chief Operations Officer. The Director will manage, supervise and review all Security employees in the Facilities and Operations Department using a combination of internal and contracted resources.
Required Qualifications:
- Candidates will be evaluated on the aggregate level of experience in specified service delivery areas.
- Experience working within a collective bargaining environment. (3 years of supervisory experience preferred)
- High school diploma
- Strong writing and oral communication skills.
- Experience and proficiency within the safety and security skill set, minimum experience of 10 years in an education setting a requirement.
- Experience and proficiency with business management software, spreadsheets, and applications.
- Possession of valid, state-issued driver's license.
Performance Responsibilities:
Educational Services delivered at all District locations:
- Develops Building & Campus Security plans and implementation of such at all facilities.
- Deliver coordinated, comprehensive and standardized procedures covering security protocols for each building.
- Implement student transportation bus and van evacuation procedures, including practice drills as required.
- Implement fire drills as required by the local authority having jurisdiction.
- Any Safety and Security related duties or special projects as directed by the Chief Operations Officer.
Professional Development Services for Departmental Staff:
- Plan and provide appropriate trainings for Security Staff
- Manages all documents concerning the quality of service, practices and procedures.
- Coordinates safety & security training with administration for all buildings and departments in the district.
Business Administration:
- Develops bid specifications in compliance with procurement regulations of goods & services related to the Safety and Security Group.
- Monitors Accounts Payable, Bookkeeping and document storage and archiving for Safety and Security Services.
- Develops job/area duties.
- Is responsible for personnel management, assists with labor relations, and Civil Service compliance.
- Assists with negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, and implementation of terms.
Quality Assurance:
- Manages performance evaluations of assigned personnel.
- Inspects and reviews current practices, work product and services.
Budget Development and Prioritization:
- Plans, manages and monitors the use of outside resources.
- Advocates for appropriate staffing and positions
- Manages and monitors use of overtime as needed, and ensures equitable distribution of overtime as needed.
Capital Planning and Prioritization:
- Oversees and plans for asset management, introduces new and trending technology in the educational security field, lifecycle replacement of standard equipment.
- Identifies and refers necessary repairs or upgrades of security devices to the Chief Operations Officer.
The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee.
Reports To: Chief Operations Officer or his designee
Supervises: Safety and Security Staff
Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits to be negotiated. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established within an individual contract.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000
