The Divisional Controller will assist with the review of all Landmark investor reporting across the student housing, BTR, and multifamily portfolio. They will manage the process, accuracy, and integrity of financial reporting as well as investor questions relating to the property results. They will also assist in the training, development, and building of team as the platform grows.

Reports to: VP of Accounting

Direct Reports: 1 Supervisor, 1 Senior Associate, & 2 Associates

Duties/Responsibilities: The duties listed below are an outline of the Divisional Controller’s responsibilities and should not be considered an all-inclusive list. As the needs of the organization change, these duties may be modified as needed.

Oversee key monthly and quarterly investment management accounting activities including:

  • Review property level financials to ensure high level compliance with GAAP.
  • Coordinate fair value adjustments between asset management and accounting team.
  • Oversee team’s work to consolidate and properly eliminate fund financials for investor reporting.
  • Manage team’s adherence to checklists and policies .

Oversee fee calculations according to asset management agreements.

Provide accounting training support to new and existing team members related to software, policies, and technical topics with assistance from VP of Accounting.

Support team in completion of annual audits of tranche level funds as well as single property REITs.

Coordinate with outside tax firms for quarterly REIT testing, tax returns, and consulting items.

Drive team initiatives to create and implement process improvements as it relates to investor reporting.

Communicate and work collaboratively with asset management to ensure investor needs are being meet regarding reporting, budgets, and additional investor requests.

Work alongside development team to support their needs in relation to ownership/deal structures, tax questions, REIT compliance, and JV agreements.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Focus in Accounting, Finance or other relevant major preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA License preferred.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of accounting software, ERP systems and databases.
  • Must possess leadership skills including managing, coaching and developing a team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; strong Excel skills required.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Must be an effective communicator.
