DSHS WSH Director of Nurse Practice, Quality and Compliance
Job description
Western State Hospital (WSH) is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Civil Nursing Organization team.
This position provides oversight in the day-to-day operational activities for civilly committed psychiatric inpatient nursing services. This position is responsible for maintain administrative support for the delivery of effective, efficient, and safe nursing care for all the inpatient beds and has 24/7 responsibility.
Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.
Some of what you'll do:
- Assist CNO in managing all aspects of nursing practice across the center
- Functions as CNO in CNO’s absence
- Plans and directs all nursing functions in assigned areas
- Communicate with all levels of the hospital organization
- Allocates nursing resources based on patient acuity/care needs within the hospital
- Articulates and interprets nursing care standards and hospital policies
- Ensures compliance with professional nursing standards
- Medicare, state and federal laws and regulations
- Performs key leadership functions
- Articulating hospital and nursing visions, providing accurate information to nursing employees on changes in standards and hospital policies
- Remain current in nursing practice, roles and functions of all patient care team members
- Evaluates patient care delivery system
- Respond to and formulate complex reports; complete employee evaluations and audits
- Assures all nursing documentation is in compliance with standards, treatment plans, progress notes, assessments
We are looking for an RN who has:
- Graduation from an accredited school and a valid Washington State Registered Nurse license or the ability to obtain one by the start of employment
- Four years of professional nursing experience, including two years in a lead capacity over other nursing personnel
- A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or higher degree involving a major study in nursing may be substituted for two years of non-supervisory experience
- One year of full-time experience teaching nursing may be substituted for one year of supervisory experience
Other skills and abilities:
- Master’s degree or higher is preferred
- Knowledge of evidence-based mental health inpatient care practices and Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Conditions of Participation standards
- Knowledge change management and project management
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills and abilities including strategic planning, conflict resolution and the ability to create high performing teams
- Ability to conduct data analytics
- Expert Knowledge of hospital, state, federal regulatory standards, policies, and procedures
