Ideal Background

:
Our team is searching for an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join the Malcom, IA site and the Performance Materials EHS community.

This position requires a strong knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations as they apply to manufacturing environments. The priority for expertise is occupational safety, environmental regulations, industrial hygiene and emergency planning and response.


Education:
Engineering or science BS degree


Experience:
Experience as an EHS professional or in a manufacturing role with EHS responsibilities


Certification:
Certification as a Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or demonstrated progress toward such certifications is desirable
  • Well rounded, general knowledge of environmental, health, safety, and process safety regulations as they apply to manufacturing operations
  • Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Knowledge of environmental technology (e.g., wastewater treatment, combustion, waste management) is preferred
  • Knowledge of process safety engineering and scientific principles is desirable
  • Experience with environmental, health and safety management systems

What You'll Be Doing

:
Job Scope: The primary environmental areas of focus include maintaining compliance with the site’s air permits, NPDES, industrial hygiene, PPE, and hazardous waste programs. Other program areas include SWPPP, SPCC and Responsible Care reporting compliance. Key focus safety areas include leading responsible management of corporate, federal, state, and local programs.

Primary responsibilities can include but are not limited to:
  • Providing technical and regulatory expertise to ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety requirements and continuous improvements of EHS programs
  • Providing strategic direction to site and BASF leadership on EHS issues and opportunities.
  • Participating in capital project reviews, process hazard analyses, and change management processes.
  • Ensuring all internal and external reporting requirements are met and recommending efficiency improvements to the data generation and reporting process in partnership with operations to optimize available systems and technology.
  • Facilitating the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices across the BASF EHS organization
  • Working with other EHS experts in the organization on the development of company-wide processes and initiatives to ensure continuous EHS improvement
  • Leading and/or participating on EHS work teams or task forces
  • As a subject matter expert on environmental, health and safety topics, providing training content, and where appropriate, delivering training, onboarding, and coaching
  • Supporting the interface with regulatory agencies and third parties, as needed, on compliance and enforcement issues.
  • Supporting implementation of Responsible Care® Management Systems
