This job is a civilian position and does not require military service (including commission and enlistment)
NAVFAC Southwest is looking for highly motivated civilian personnel to join our Public Works team in support of Navy and Marine Corps installations. This is a full-time federal government position, NOT a contractor. The ideal candidate will have experience making complex technical decisions and judgment for repairs on complex electrical systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repair and maintain electrical components, fixtures, and wiring in buildings, facilities, and structures in compliance with National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls;
- Replace worn or bad switches, relays, and outlets by unscrewing or cutting wiring from connections, inserting the replacement, and splicing, tightening, and soldering wiring to connections; and
- Install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot equipment using 600 volts and below including 120, 208, 240, 277 and 480 volts.
Must have experience in:
- Must have knowledge of electrical theory and familiar with principles underlying electronics in order to perform routine repair and overhaul tasks
- Must have the ability to read and follow wiring diagrams that specify where wiring, fixtures, and controls are installed or are hooked up and show the type wiring fittings and equipment installed or to be used.
- Must possess the skill needed to remove and replace fixtures and controls, and to make repairs such as tightening connections, wrapping exposed wiring with insulating tape, soldering loose wire leads to contact points.
- Must have the skill needed to measure, cut and bend such things as wire and conduit of specified lengths and angles.
- Must be able to use hand tools and a small variety of test equipment such as screwdriver, plyers, wire cutters, soldering iron, test lamps, amp meters
- Must be familiar with National Electrical Code.
