Job Title: Emergency Services Technician/Unit Secretary


Job Summary:

The ER Technician supports Emergency Department by performing basic emergency medical procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Assists the medical and nursing staff of the department by providing direct and indirect safe patient care and performing related duties and procedures as assigned and within the scope of their practice.

Essential Job Duties:

• Receives direction and assignments from physicians and nurses and provides technical support to optimize patient care. • Responsible for reporting on the condition of patient/client to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members. • Coordinates and assists with care as directed. • Cleans and stocks carts, rooms, and changes linen, as required. • Assists with transport of patients to other departments. • Assists with resuscitation / CPR and emergency airway procedures. • Assists with obtaining and documentation of vital signs and placement of oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems. • Assists with other technical functions such as: obtaining 12-lead EKGs, discontinuation of peripheral IV and saline locks, maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysis, and Point of Care Testing. • Assists with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes. • Decontaminates all equipment, instruments, and supplies. • Assists with positioning patients, application of orthopedic splints and dressings. • Measures and fit crutches and canes; assists RN with training of patients on proper crutch and cane walking. • Maintains appropriate documentation. • Maintains use of appropriate medical equipment and supplies. • Monitors patient and family activity in waiting room and main ED, providing excellent customer service to meet patient needs and notifying the RN of any change or concerns with the patient’s condition. • Participates in team meetings and in-services as needed. • Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of hospital, and other local, state, and federal guidelines.

Education/Experience:

Required Experience: CA EMT BLS (American Heart) MAB/CPI (Management of Assaultive Behavior Training) within 90 days of hire Preferred: CA and/or National Registry EMT-P (Paramedic)

Preferred Experience: 6 months related clinical experience One year related clinical experience (Urgent Care or ED) or pre-hospital setting preferred.


Job Title: Unit Secretary

Job Summary:

Performs clerical, receptionist duties and maintains the physical environment of the Nurses’ Station. Performs under the supervision of a licensed nurse, individually assigned patient care activities based upon established patient care policies and procedures. Participates in patient care as an active member of the healthcare delivery team. Reports to Licensed Nurse, Charge RN, Nursing Director. Essential Job Duties: • Demonstrates ability to prioritize and organize clerical / receptionist duties and work flow • Demonstrates ability to correctly operate office equipment and maintain a safe environment • Compiles new charts, maintains current charts, files reports from other departments, transcribes MD orders accurately and timely to appropriate areas under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, confers with Charge Nurse regarding patient needs • Performs essential role in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, regulatory standards and fulfills other job duties as requested within scope • Serves as a role model for the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization and fulfills other job duties as requested within Scope of Practice • Maintains current competencies as well as updated knowledge in specific area of practice

Education/Experience:

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Requires at least 6 months prior clerical experience. Hospital experience and medical terminology and computer skills preferred. Licensure/Certifications: • Current BLS for Health Care Providers card.

Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to perform upper level mathematical operations, including algebra and geometry, frequent distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is regularly required to lift, push and/or pull weights in excess of 10 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds, with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
