Job Summary:
The Financial Case Coordinator is responsible for managing and/or coordinating all financial matters with patients, insurers, referring and attending physicians, nurse coordinators, social workers, and other stakeholders. Complies with established company policies and procedures, HIPAA Privacy Rules and University of Colorado School of Medicine Confidentiality Policy. Ensures clear and timely communication around insurance verification, authorization of service, potential coverage issues, payer requirements, financial counseling, and resolution of problems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicates with medical team, patients, families, and insurance companies all pertinent information regarding authorizations and coverage options in cases where the benefits may not be sufficient.
- Assists the patient in applying for any federal or state programs (e.g., Medicaid, drug assistance programs) as needed.
- Solves problems independently and works cooperatively with other health system team members to make continuous adjustments to the workflow. Seeks assistance for unusual or difficult situations and/or issues.
- Monitors insurance status and updates benefits, and authorizations as needed due to patient changes or insurance requirements.
- Uses eligibility systems, online websites, or phone calls to determine insurance benefits and precertification requirements.
- Assists patients with the coordination of benefits as appropriate.
- Provides estimates to patients and healthcare team as requested.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least four (4) years of medical office experience in patient/client-facing environment.
- Substitution: Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Combination of related education and experience may be considered.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Medical business office experience.
- EPIC experience.
- Bilingual, Spanish-speaking.
Conditions of Employment:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross healthcare provider level CPR certification or certification within 90 days of hire.
- Maintains necessary licensure and certifications for position.
- Maintains necessary continuing education requirements.
- Must be able to work in-person.
- Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of healthcare billing, collections, and insurance processes.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communications skills.
- Understanding of patient registration and insurance processes.
- Understanding of financial and patient account processes, including payer remittance activities.
- Understanding of HIPAA practices and patient confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and personal skills; must have strong work ethic.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude with clients, employees, and management.
- Ability to work quickly – individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, documents, and regulations.
- Must be detail-orientated and maintain excellent organizational skills.
- Must be tech savvy (ability to understand, apply, and benefit from technology).

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $50,086.08.
The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
