Job description
Silver Lake Regional Middle School seeks applicants to fill the position of an 8th-grade Science Teacher. Working as part of a team of science teachers, the successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues on the development and implementation of curriculum initiatives and review of instruction and student learning. Qualified applicants should be familiar with the 2016 Massachusetts Science Framework, and have experience instructing life, physical, and earth science. This position will be part of a team working to implement the OpenSciEd curriculum over the next three years centering around engaging students in relevant and rigorous questions, problems, and challenges that introduce the science practices to promote a deeper understanding of content.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Draws on results of formal and informal assessments to identify teaching strategies and learning activities appropriate to the specific discipline and student readiness.
- Communicates high standards and expectations, and makes learning objectives clear to students.
- Uses engaging ways to begin units of study or lessons.
- Collaborates with colleagues to improve instruction, assessment, and student achievement.
- Works actively to involve parents in their child's academic activities and performance, and communicates clearly with them.
Job Requirements:
Candidates should hold a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license in the area of General Science 5-8.
