JOB TITLE: GROUNDS KEEPER II GRADE: 109
DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS/PARKS FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
SALARY: $15.02 to $22.54
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
This is semi-skilled work, which involves landscaping, and grounds maintenance of City Hall, City Police
Department, City fields, right-of-ways and other properties. This also includes the application of lawn care equipment, knowledge of vegetation and greens keeping practices, and irrigation repair/maintenance/operations. This position requires a proactive and highly energetic employee to ensure
City downtown areas and properties are kept in a presentable state. Scheduled work hours are Monday through Friday 7: 00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. but may be subject to change based on projects or services.
Employee is subject to emergency on call rotation. Overtime may be required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Maintains various grounds, field and parks by mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, digging and other manual labor tasks
- Maintains the grounds of City Hall and the Police Department, including secured/restricted areas, by tending to irrigation systems, general litter, flower beds, parking lots, and other greens keeping duties
- Maintains grounds located in FDOT right-of-way such as the South Apex and portions of Meridian
Avenue medians
- Maintains grounds within the downtown corridor and areas considered as downtown, including City- owned parking lots
- Operates various gas power tools, hand tools, and electric power tools incidental to assignment duties, and any other duties assigned by crew leader
- Continuous attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job
- Enforces safety standards and safe operating procedures
- Performs work found in the utilities maintenance mechanic and street maintenance worker classification
- Installs turf, seeds, plants, flowers and trees on City property.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
− Knowledge of plants and planting materials
− Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot irrigation systems and their control units
− Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in the parks area, and the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with the area of work assignment
− Ability to follow oral instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
− High School diploma or equivalent.
− A combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
− to perform all assigned tasks.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
− Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license is required upon employment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work is normally performed under some the supervision of the Grounds Crew Leader or the Assistant
Crew Leader, with results checked for adherence to instruction and conformance with established standards.
ADA COMPLIANCE:
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to physically lift, push and carrying heavy objects (45 pounds and over). Reaching, climbing, walking, bending and crawling. Driving and the operation of maintenance trucks, tractors and similar equipment is a requirement.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are performed inside and outside with exposure to various weather conditions. Regular exposure to radiant energy, electrical energy, grease or oils, solvents, odors, noisy and dusty conditions, heights and uneven surfaces.
