GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides for early identification of individual differences; provides individual and group counseling opportunities; and acts as a liaison with students, parents, teachers, administrators and outside resources in Grades 7 & 8.

DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
- Aids students in course and subject selection.
- Assists with student scheduling and building the master schedule for the junior high school.
- Assists students and their parents in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and work with students in evolving education and occupation plans in terms of such evaluation.
- Works to discover the special abilities of students.
- Works to resolve students' educational handicaps.
- Registers students new to the school and orients them and their parents to school procedures and the school's varied opportunities for learning.
- Works to prevent students from dropping out of school.
- Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.
- Works with students and parents on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health and emotional adjustment, drug and alcohol concerns.
- Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.
- Assures that cumulative records are kept up-to-date and accurate.
- Confers with parents.
- Arranges for tutors and summer school work as appropriate.
- Coordinates standardized testing program.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Ohio Guidance Certificate/License
- Masters or advanced degree
- Two (2) years or more experience of classroom teaching preferred
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Effective Date: 2023/2024 School Year
- Length of Employment: One-year limited contract with potential extended days.
