Job Summary:
Amentum is currently seeking a trained and qualified Gunsmith III for Fort Polk, LA location.
  • Possesses required knowledge in the use of hand tools, machine tools, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties, has the knowledge and skill to design and construct prototype small arms from drawings or customer input.
  • Capable of designing computer prototypes from customer input, has necessary knowledge of munitions and ballistics to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Thorough understanding of, and can instruct in external/internal and terminal ballistics, can build custom pistols and rifles, as well as other types of weapons systems with no supervision, and has a thorough understanding of machine tools and equipment.
  • Works from blueprints without supervision, design, fabricate and develop prototype small arms systems from a drawing or form customer input, work to Special Repair Facility Level maintenance, and can design computer prototypes from customer input.
  • Consults with government officials in all facets concerning the Weapons Department, such as, but not limited to, indoor/outdoor range design, ammunition fundamentals ballistics, weapons mounts, suppressors, optic systems, prototype development and reverse engineering projects, and performs direct supervision and training of subordinate gunsmiths.
  • Direct the day to day weapons maintenance operations of the Arms Room.
  • Accountability of all sensitive items and accessories, preparation for shipment, receipt, handling, turn-in and storage. IAW AR 190-11.
  • Ensures that equipment received is stored in the proper location and documentation is posted in AWRDS within the required time.
  • Locate, retrieve and issue weapons to maintenance for service or repair ensuring the proper documentation is correct and the weapons are signed over to authorized personnel.
  • Maintain accountability of weapons accessories, which include ensuring all BII & AAL is on hand, or ordered.
  • Ensures that weapons are properly received, tagged and secured in order to maintain positive control.
  • Maintain the storage area in clean and orderly fashion.
  • Ensure weapons are stored in a configuration designated by management and maintained.
  • Plan, prioritize and execute weapon repair missions as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Service and repair US military firearms IAW TM’s. Properly document services performed.
  • Verify that all services performed are properly documented.
Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident.
  • Attendance at a formal one to two year accredited in-house gun-smiting course, or equivalent work experience.
  • Four (4) years of experience in the repair of US military small arms to include crew served weapons and have been working in an Armorer position within the last 2 years.
  • Must have a valid certificate for MOS schools and/or GSA/OEM Factory Certifications as stipulated below in Preferred.
  • Applicant should be thoroughly familiar with US military Technical Manuals.
  • Must have or be able to obtain licenses/certifications as needed to perform duties.
  • Must have a valid and current state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to complete paperwork associated with the position as required.
  • Excellent written communications skills.
  • Must possess working knowledge of word processing and integrated software applications. Ability to perform detail-oriented work as required.
  • Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must have the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
  • Position may require travel.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with U.S. Army combat and tactical equipment preferred.
  • Valid US Army MOS 45 Bravo, 93 Juliet or USMC MOS 2111 certificate and/or GSA/OEM Factory Armorer certifications for required weapons
