Job Summary
The Hotel Oceana Santa Monica is seeking a Houseman who is a vital part of helping achieve a high level of guest satisfaction through the upkeep, maintenance, and cleanliness of common areas in the hotel, such as the lobby, restrooms, fitness studio, spa, and pool area. The Houseman also supports the housekeepers with the items needed to clean guest rooms and helps stock the carts. Treating customers with courtesy and respect through honoring their privacy is essential for hotel housekeeping.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay: $20.00 to $22.00 per hour
We offer a wide range of benefits to help you meet your individual needs, including medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance options. The company offers auto-enrollment in its 401(k) plan after 60 days of employment. New employees accrue 48 hours of vacation in the first year and earn paid sick leave per state requirements. Eligible employees will also receive holiday pay (if working) or paid holidays (if scheduled off) for 6 holidays each year*.
- To be eligible for holiday pay, employees must have completed 90 days of employment and have worked the last scheduled day before and the first scheduled day after the holiday.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Housemen primarily work morning and afternoon shifts to assist with the makeup of rooms for current guests and prepare rooms for new arrivals as well as maintain the hotel’s other amenities
- Assist with more labor-intensive tasks, such as flipping mattresses, hanging pictures, and moving furniture or debris, as needed
- Attend daily staff meetings with the housekeeping supervisor to receive updates on the day’s hotel activities and to obtain their assignments and cleaning log to complete before they leave each day
- Ensure that all room accessories and electronics are in working order
- Ensure compliance with hotel security regulations, restock the housekeeping shelves, and make sure that outside areas, like patios and pool areas, are kept clean, tidy and in working order
- Report any inconsistencies to the Housekeeping Supervisor; alert hotel management of any damage or need for additional cleaning or room supplies as needed; also initiate requests for maintenance work

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED is required or have equivalent work experience in the hospitality industry
- Prior custodial, housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred, but not necessary
Physical Requirements
- Pay: From $18.17 per hour
- work hours: 7:30 to 5:00, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends
- Travel: None
- Work environment and physical demands:
- Able to frequently lift or move items weighing up to 20 pounds; occasionally needs to lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Able to use hands to use and manipulate tools and objects or control equipment; adequate vision to do the same safely
- Able to move about the property to perform assigned tasks and responsibilities, including standing for extended periods, walking, climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling to perform functions
