As the Human Resources Coordinator you will work in collaboration with a strong team of 74 staff and 400 volunteers to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for thousands of animals every year. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This role is responsible for a wide variety of Human Resources tasks. One day you may spend focusing on employment recruiting, while the next may be spent leading a staff wellness committee and the next working with organizational leaders to create and implement policies and practices that foster a positive working environment for staff and volunteers. You never know what each day may bring!

Daily tasks can range from recruiting, hiring, onboarding, ensuring accurate record keeping, recognizing employee milestones, staff development, performance management and a wide variety of other human resource related tasks. Human Resources functions also include coordinating benefit open enrollment, administration of the employee manual, responding to staff questions, and handling confidential employee relations (in conjunction with department leaders and the Executive Director) and managing various employee leaves (FMLA, WA State Paid Medical / Family Leave).

Qualities of the Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have 2 or more years of experience in Human Resources and/or relevant professional experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to always maintain confidentiality, and the ability to maintain a professional and calm demeanor in stressful situations is a must. You must have experience with payroll and onboarding systems, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other software designed to perform essential HR functions. In this position, being detail oriented, accurate, highly organized, and able to multi-task will help you succeed!

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Coordinator is a highly organized, conscientious, and experienced individual that works alongside the Executive Director and the Leadership Team to support all departments across Kitsap Humane Society. The designated Human Resources person assists with the development and implementation of Human Resources practices to further the goals of KHS and to ensure compliance with all relevant law and/or union contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with recruitment efforts, including creating job postings, monitor and communicate with applicants, and process background checks for new hires.
  • Manage the initial new hire onboarding process; assist with new employee orientation as needed.
  • In partnership with the payroll department, process benefits & changes via online benefit application and insurance websites and verify that deductions are entered correctly to payroll.
  • Oversee administration of employee manual and respond to staff questions, concerns and HR needs.
  • Handle/address confidential employee relations in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Maintain Employee files and ensure records are complete and kept up to date.
  • Monitor employee anniversaries and performance review management.
  • Coordinate responses to ES, L&I and other claims.
  • Assists in managing employee leave such as FMLA, WA State Paid Medical / Family Leave
  • Coordinates benefits open enrollment.
  • Further develop Kitsap Humane Society’s human resources and administration, enhancing professional development, compensation and benefits, performance evaluation, training, and recruiting.
  • Ensure that recruiting processes are consistent and streamlined; oversee orientation activities and implementation in conjunction with senior management.
  • Establish and manage a comprehensive training program to educate employees regarding staff tools, policies, and procedures.
  • Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third-party vendors and consultants, achieving the most cost effective and quality solutions.
  • Oversees and takes a lead role in assuring KHS compliance legally; has basic knowledge of HR law in Washington and the role of collective bargaining agreements.
