Job Summary:


A part-time intermediate level professional research assistant position is immediately available at the Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) Laboratory of the Department of Otolaryngology. Led by Dr. Shi-Long Lu, the HNC laboratory focuses on basic and translational research on head and neck cancer, which is the 6th common cancer with poor outcomes. Two main research projects are undergoing at the HNC laboratory. 1). Define and function of oral microbiome in head and neck cancer development, identify and test novel biomarkers for early diagnosis and therapy. 2). Saliva liquid biopsy for head and neck cancer recurrence, prognosis, company therapeutics, and early cancer screening. Highly motivated and qualified PRA is welcome to join the team. Key Responsibilities:

  • Quantitative PCR for biomarker selection, validation using clinical laboratory standard
  • Cell culture, genetical engineering, and in vitro functional analysis
  • Head and neck cancer mouse model establishment and experimental treatment
  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results

Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least (1) one year’s experience in the Bioscience field.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Bioscience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A certificated Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and skills in molecular biology/medicine.
  • Able to perform experiments (e.g. PCR, nucleic acid extraction etc.) in molecular biology independently

Anticipated Pay Range:


The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $43,834-$55,757 and pro-rated to .40 FTE at $17,533.60-$22,302.80.

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
