The Office of Internationalization provides leadership and support for the University of Denver’s efforts to internationalize the curriculum and the campus. At DU, students and scholars from overseas are part of our community, and all of our faculty and students are encouraged to study, research, and offer service in a global context.
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) supports internationalization at the University of Denver by serving as a resource to students, faculty, and staff in meeting the needs of the international community on campus through programming and immigration services.
Position Summary:
The International Community and Programming (ICP) Coordinator in International Students and Scholars Services provides central support and resources to international students with emphasis on designing programs and activities related to acculturation, adjustment to campus and community and fosters engagement with domestic students. Additionally, the incumbent will oversee the issuance of initial I-20s and DS-2019s for new, transfer and change of level students. Thirdly, the position will implement the annual ISSS Communication plan and refine and update as needed. Provide administrative and events assistance to the ISSS and INTZ office as needed.
The International Community & Programming Coordinator is a full-time exempt, benefited position and reports to the Director of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).
Essential Functions:
Programming and Community Outreach: 40%
- With guidance from and in collaboration with the ISSS team, leads, coordinates, organizes and implements four (4) quarterly new student arrival orientations. A graduate student assistant supports logistics and planning.
- Offers a variety of social programs for students to experience and engage with campus life and through community activities. Performs outreach to various departments across campus to offer workshops, trainings, and discussions for students, staff, and faculty on issues pertinent to international student immigration requirements, cultural adjustment and academic success.
- Works closely and collaborates with various student groups affiliated with ISSS, the USG and GSG, Office of International Education, Office of International Admissions, Housing and Residential Education, The Cultural Center and other units in the Student Affairs Division (SAIE), to coordinate university-wide programming and internationalization events and outreach.
- Works within the institutional and community framework to facilitate internationalization objectives and encourage intercultural competency among students, staff, and faculty outreach programs including management of the Global Friends program, serving on the Internationalization Summit team and Culture Fest.
Immigration: Advising and document issuance: 40%
- Oversee immigration document preparation for newly admitted international students. Determines that there are sufficient financial resources to enable document issuance in a timely and efficient manner. Understanding of appropriate visa type (J and F) and advise students and staff accordingly. Review of Slate database materials along with Banner and Terra Dotta.
- Liaise with INTZ main office assistant regarding inquiries and follow up with prospective students post matriculation.
- Work and train with International Admissions and graduate department admissions coordinators and with Office of Graduate Education (OGE) to manage and refine workflow.
- Develop pre-arrival content for student communication and dissemination.
- Create lists of newly admitted students by country and maintains the ISSS student directory.
Communication and Marketing: 10%
- Primary university contact for communication. Enhances and builds upon ISSS central communication plan geared towards students, parents, DU faculty/staff and community for outreach and programming.
- Creates non-immigration content for electronic, print and video messaging, including website updates to promote student engagement initiatives and coordinates support with University Marketing and Communications (MarComm) for ISSS web page enhancements.
- Supervises student assistant on social media posts and updates and The Globe weekly newsletter.
Supervisory Duties: 5%
- Supervises multiple student workers responsible for Slate process and initial immigration document production, programming activities including post event data collection, communication activities and administrative support as required.
Office Support: 5%
- Serve on campus committees as needed
- Staff I-House Front Desk as needed
- Other duties as assigned/as needed, due to changes in work environment

- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Office 365, Adobe.
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills particularly with non-native English speakers.
Required Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in student programming and event planning.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to meet federal requirement to serve as a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience working with international students at a post-secondary institution.
- 1 year of relevant immigration advising and I-20 document preparation.
- Strong computer literacy including experience with Terra Dotta, MS Office Suite, SEVIS, Banner, Slate and other university platforms.
- Ability to supervise student employees.
- Overseas living experience and second language ability.
Working Environment:
- Standard office environment
- Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate
Physical Activities:
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some nights and weekends as required.
In accordance with the University’s flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 7.
Hourly Range:
The hourly range for this position is $23.00-$26.56.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
