Location: Frankfort, KY
Long-term Indefinite Contract

Job Description:
Program Description: The Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program produces monthly and annual estimates of the civilian labor force, employment, unemployment, and unemployment rates for the state and sub-state areas in Client. The Current Employment Statistics (CES) Program conducts monthly surveys of over 7,500 businesses to calculate employment, hours, and earnings estimates in non-agricultural industries.

Both of these programs operate under a Cooperative Agreement between Client and the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Employees in these programs must follow BLS methodology in the creation of estimates, and adhere to the confidentiality guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Labor and the state of Client.

Position Description: Performs professional statistical analytic work in gathering, tabulating and analyzing labor market and workforce data. Compiles, verifies, tabulates, and reports labor market data for the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) Program and the Current Employment Statistics Program (CES). Produces civilian labor force and current industry employment estimates on a monthly and annual basis following procedures established by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Duties

  • Prepares monthly and annual labor force and current employment estimates, including monthly employment estimates by industry series and monthly unemployment rates.
  • Develops inputs from the Current Employment Statistics (CES) utilized in LAUS estimation.
  • Edits all data elements that serve as monthly inputs into the LAUS estimation methodology. Transmits final estimates and inputs to the federal government and to appropriate border states.
  • Performs annual benchmark revisions to previous years' estimates according to Bureau of Labor Statistics' guidelines.
  • Responds to data inquiries and assists in the development of Areas of Substantial Unemployment (ASUs) as designated by the U.S. Department of Labor.
  • Prepares tables and reports for publication.
  • Participates in national trainings and conferences, and performs other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with data entry, data computation and data analysis a plus
  • Customer service focused
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with MS Office products

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
