The Jury Clerk attends to all petit jurors and Grand Jurors insuring payment and attendance. Random selection of criminal and civil jury panels. Payroll audit and final audit performed at the end of each day and transfer file protocol at the end of each week to insure payment from County Finance Department. Checking the voice mail daily, printing all Juror reports for each week making coffee for Jurors daily. Rescheduling jurors and providing adequate number of jurors for exceptional cases required by each Judge. Excusing jurors as set forth by the Jury Plan of Prince George’s County mandated in 2006. Summons files are transferred as to protocol to vendor for mailing. Answering all questions by the Judges and courtroom staff. Monthly election processed to remove deceased, nonresident and non-citizens. Grand Jury summoning for each four-month term. Grand Jury profiles entered and logged into the data system. Arrange for all interpreters for deaf incoming jurors. Contact Court Administration for all requests for interpreters. Orientation is preformed daily for approximately three hundred jurors. Direction and courtroom rules described to each juror. Expectations of each juror and general overlook of our court system. Attendance by scanning given to Petit Jurors and Grand Jurors and any carryover trial from previous days for payment and statistical purposes. Correspondence from jurors processed daily by mail and via telephone. Reschedule jurors with issues reporting on particular day. Send correspondence to Jury Judge in regards to medical and hardship issues process the correspondence and outcome. Update and manage cases ensuring the random selection of Jury panels with case information returning from courtroom. Swearing in jurors selected for Civil and Criminal trials. Monthly election report processed to remove deceased, nonresident and non-citizen. File is transferred as to protocol to Office of Information and Technology and Communications (OITC). Information extracted from Motor Vehicle Administration and Board of election to load juror in pool for the year. Files transferred by protocol to OITC on a weekly basis for summons to go to vendor to be mailed. Audit and final update performed at the end of each day. Information completed weekly and Information file transferred as to protocol to OITC for final payments to jurors. Office payroll ledger completed and pre check register final payments Generous Juror payments also sent to OITC for disbursement.
Education: High School Diploma (or GED equivalent)
Experience: One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations, or in the fields of criminal justice, parole, and probation, legal or financial services.
Note: A Bachelor’s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal Certificate may substitute for the required work experience.
Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of legal terminology and court procedures, policies, and forms; general office practices, procedures, and equipment; personal Computers and software to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite.
Skill in customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently; basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; typing on a personal computer.
Ability to learn and apply job-related terminology, procedures, policies, rules, and regulations in order to define problems, collect and record data, appropriately complete forms, determine and document juror qualification status, and prepare and issue appropriate notifications; communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with jurors, judges, the public, police agencies, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing. Use standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, microfilm machine, register, scanner, fax machine, etc. Multitask, adjust to situations quickly, set priorities, and handle pressure in a fast-paced environment. Ability to perform all essential functions of the position.
