Basic Purpose: ACL is excited to offer this position to grow and retain talent within the company. The candidate for this position will train with the current Operational and Technical Supervisors and Lab Manager at Millcreek and Corry Laboratories. This candidate will be expected to work on the bench to maintain and improve their technical skills 40% of the time. They will take over supervisor responsibilities under the direction of a supervisor as the training progresses and as the qualification requirements are met. Once the candidate meets the regulatory qualifications and has successfully completed training they will become eligible for any open Clinical Supervisory role within ACL. The duties and responsibilities listed below would be performed under the supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor or the Laboratory Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must remain current for all necessary competencies and CE’s as established by the Laboratory Manager
- Oversee daily operations in the Millcreek laboratory and provide overall direction and assistance to staff under the guidance of the Laboratory Manager
- Reviews Quality Control and instrument logs to ensure methods/instruments are functioning properly and presents findings to Laboratory Manager for final review
- Completes instrument validations as needed under the direction of the Technical Supervisor and Lab Manager
- Administer work schedules and review/approve employee time sheets for all assigned shifts/employees
- Ensure laboratory employees have thorough understanding of assay theory, troubleshooting, and data analyses by serving as mentor and coach
- Ensure laboratory employees are up to date at all times with training, competency assessments, and continued education for their areas of responsibility
- Monitor department productivity and ensure appropriate quality metrics are met (turnaround times, quality events, etc.) as directed by the Laboratory Manager
- Organizes and delegates survey assignments and performs survey investigations as needed guided by the Laboratory Manager
- Identify inefficiencies in processes, workflow, and throughput and implement process improvements to minimize waste
- Proactively develop plans and review them with the Laboratory Manager to meet future departmental needs
- Perform testing as necessary in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Scientist job description. Performs duties of technologist as necessitated by absence or peak workload
- Support the Lab Manager in conducting effective and productive team meetings
- Provide primary source of information and assistance to other departments as needed
- Accept, complete and report on special assignments within the agreed upon time frame
- Other duties as assigned by management
The Ideal Candidate Would Possess:
- MT, CLS, MLS or equivalent with preferred 4 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory setting
- Experience with instrument validation, SOP review, survey investigations, and linearity & correlation data review
- Experience working on automated and manual laboratory platforms
- Requires flexibility in schedule, working hours and days (potentially including weekends) outside of normal schedule when necessary
- Goal oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Ability to effectively solve problems and make sound independent decisions
- Analytical judgment, problem solving skills, accuracy and detail oriented
- Valid driver's license
