The purpose of the laundry assistant is to meet the individual needs of the residents by maintaining clean bed linens, clean resident clothing / belongings, and other items throughout the community.
KEY POSITION SPECIFIC ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains a clean, organized and clutter free laundry area.
- Ensures that needed supplies in the department are adequately stocked for providing the highest quality of laundry services (ex. ensures proper use and stocking of detergents and other cleaning agents).
- Checks each piece of clothing for missing buttons, hems, stains, and tears – repairing items as appropriate.
- Washes and dries (by hanging or the use of dryer) all resident personal clothing- this may involve sorting items by color, material, weight, etc.
- Washes and dries (by hanging or the use of dryer) all other items needed in the community- such as bed linens, towels, rags, and table cloths.
- Folds, irons and/or presses items as appropriate.
- Tags / identifies residents clothing as direct by department process / procedure.
- Follows department and community guidelines in regards to the handling of any special items.
- Delivers clean items to resident rooms, storage closets, dining rooms, or other areas as appropriate.
- Maintains all linen storage areas (including resident closets and drawers) in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Follows proper infection control protocol in all aspects of laundering duties- from collection to transportation of linens.
- Follows proper safety procedures with all hazardous materials, chemicals, etc.- always seeks clarification from manager if unsure of proper processes, procedures, or if help is needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience
- One to two (1-2) years of experience as a housekeeper, laundry assistant or equivalent position.
- Experience in cleaning and maintaining sanitary environments.

- Availability & Attendance
- Flexible work schedule (mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, holidays, etc.)
- Follows all attendance policies and procedures, including proper timeclock usage.
