Lead - Construction Major Projects
Job Summary:
The Marathon Los Angeles Refinery has an opening for a Major Projects Construction Lead. This position will support construction activities associated with several strategic projects totaling more than $500MM of total installed cost. Also, responsible for supporting and completing construction activities safely, on time, on budget, and in compliance with environmental requirements. This position will report to the LAR Major Project Supervisor with accountability to support the LAR Major Projects Group. The hours of the position are 4- 10 Monday - Thursday 6 AM - 4:30 PM, on-call duty is rare and support TAR annually when needed.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage safe, productive, and quality execution of project portfolio
-
Review Construction Work Packages, participate in constructability review, and validate man hour estimates align with scope

Manage conflict resolution for issues related to safety, operations, cost or schedule variances, and contractor relations.

Participate and coordinate field walks with engineering, operations, and construction to verify/ validate construction installation is per design.

Provide guidance to engineering on project constructability and execution strategy

Assist team in resolution to RFI’s during planning and execution

Participate in project model reviews providing constructability input to engineering design.

Support engineering on construction work package splits between TAR and Non-TAR construction.

Monitor and drive completion of all Project Construction Work Packages.

Provide direct supervision of mechanical, civil, and structural construction coordinators
-
Interact daily with Construction Coordinators, Project Controls, Planners, Schedulers, Project Managers, and construction contractors to progress construction planning and execution activities.

Manage area work package assignments.

Support project controls team in management of contractor hiring plans and productivity issues

Support development and validation of contractor hiring plans project control estimates, material processes

Monitor weekly progress reports and contractor performance summaries.

Supervise organization’s adherence of QA/QC, system turnover, and punch list tracking and closeout processes

Support turnarounds with large project construction scope when applicable.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Must have High School Diploma or GED.
-
Must have 5 years of experience working in projects or construction in a refinery, petrochemical, or other heavy related industry.

Must have the ability to read construction work packages
-
Must be proficient with Microsoft: Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Must have excellent interpersonal, organization and communication skills.
-
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

Must have a clean and valid driver’s license.
-
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience planning and/or coordinating large, complex projects in refining setting is preferred.

More than 5 years of experience working in projects or construction in a refinery, petrochemical or other heavy related industry is preferred

Previous leadership skills preferred.

Primavera - P6 experience is preferred.
