Lead Medical Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTION AND RELATIONSHIPS
Pain & Spine Physicians is a prominent Pain Management practice consisting of 6 clinics in North Texas. The Lead Medical Assistant (MA) is a multi-skilled health professional who works interdependently with other health care professionals to provide quality health care to the patient. The MA is educated and trained to perform both administrative and clinical skills in the medical care environment. He/she is directly responsible to the physician-employer who hires them or any other physician-appointed supervisor in the facility.
MINIMUM EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED (required)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification a plus
Prior MA experience required
Prior clinic or pain management experience a plus
JOB DUTIES
The Medical Assistant may perform the following skills in a clinic setting:
Administrative
- Front desk reception (answering phones, scheduling appointments)
- Greet patients, complete registration forms, give patient instructions
- Filing and maintaining medical & financial records
- Preparing and typing correspondence
- Processing, coding, and completing insurance claim forms
- Calling in prescriptions to the pharmacy for providers
- Communicating using appropriate medical terminology
- Following appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct
- Must be willing to travel 1-2 days per week to McKinney clinic
Clinical
- Keep providers on time and efficient with patient flow and maintain turnover in a timely manner
- Measuring and recording vital signs
- Recording patient interview, history, and chief complaint
- Providing patient education (office policies, medications, home treatments, special diets)
- Preparing patients for examinations and performing routine screening tests
- Assisting the provider with exams and minor office surgery
- Collection of urine drug screen (UDS) lab specimens
- Performing EKGs, assisting with X-ray, and physical therapy procedures
- Preparing and administering medications with provider’s authorizations
- Change dressings, applying bandages, removing sutures, and other first aid procedures
- Using CPR skills when required
- Maintaining supplies, equipment, stocking, and sterilizing instruments
- Practicing OSHA standards
- Disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards
- Performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times
