We are seeking a Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our growing firm. You will listen to audio files and type the contents into digital documents or convert them into text format. The ideal candidate should have excellent listening and typing skills as well as be a self-starter. This is an excellent opportunity to work directly with attorneys to manage cases and perform legal work in a supportive and positive work environment.

What you’ll be doing to make an impact:

  • Types with speed and accuracy, is proficient in word processing systems and associated peripherals.
  • Reads incoming mail and independently composes reply when attorney's personal attention is not required.
  • Prepares and files complex motions and orders subpoenas for both depositions and trials; attends court hearings and keeps docket.
  • Establishes and maintains a comprehensive file system, using the agency’s case management database.
  • Maintains records of all directives issued by the Court and assures compliance with same and keeps fiscal records and other files as required.
  • Prepares documents for e-filing.
  • Maintains confidential, case, follow-up and other essential legal records and files.
  • Gathers and submits caseload data to insure timely and accurate reporting.

Below are the qualifications expected of a transcriptionist:

  • Ability to type quickly and accurately while proofreading
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills
  • Excellent verbal communication, listening, and computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with a variety of people and personalities
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating system
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Fluency in English or the preferred language

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • (1) year of progressively responsible secretarial experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed upon completion for conformance with policies and regulations.
  • Able to perform a variety of complex and confidential secretarial duties for an attorney requiring independent judgment, action, knowledge of laws and regulations, including making frequent decisions in accordance with organizational policies and practices. Duties cover all facets of the Criminal Justice System.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other basic software
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills with excellent written English skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $11.00 - $20.00 per hour
