Position Summary
The University Libraries is seeking a project manager for the Library Copyright Institute (LCI) project. Although copyright impacts libraries of all types, typically only the highest funded institutions have well-trained copyright experts on staff. However, library staff at all institutions, regardless of financial wherewithal, need this expertise to meet the needs of their user communities. Over the period of the award, this project will establish this regularized copyright training, offering basic and more advanced training. Ultimately, the goal is to empower librarians across the country with the legal knowledge necessary to serve the needs of their patrons, whether they be students, faculty, public users, or others. To read more about the project, visit the description at our funder’s website: https://www.imls.gov/grants/awarded/re-246377-ols-20.
The LCI is a joint project of the Triangle Research Library Network members, and it is funded by a grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Studies Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian program. The LCI Project Manager will be a temporary staff member funded through August 31, 2024. Other participants include the Principal Investigator at UNC-Chapel Hill with partial effort devoted to the program, co-principal investigators from Duke University, North Carolina Central University, and North Carolina State University, and additional guest speakers.
Through classes that are primarily held online, the LCI team teaches comprehensive, introductory copyright training to cohorts of library staff across the country. Along with the training sessions, the LCI is exploring ways to continue students’ learning beyond the initial course and ensure that their copyright training is ongoing and sustainable.
The Library Copyright Institute Project Manager will serve as the main program contact for the project and will plan and organize work. Job duties include:
