Weill Cornell is currently searching for an Maintenance Mechanic Specialist - Refrigeration Engineering to fill a role in New York (including Upper East Side).
Position Summary
Under direct supervision, provides expert level maintenance and repair services on infrastructure systems and has an active role in the efficient operations, maintenance, repair, monitoring, and ultimate performance of seasonal and year-round cooling plants.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Completes the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair services on heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC+R) systems.
- Completes and submits a variety of service requests and preventative maintenance tasks indicating work performed and time and material spent.
- Develops scope of work for projects and identifies material and labor necessary. Obtains material pricing from vendors.
- Oversees shutdowns of selected utility systems during construction activities.
- Performs general maintenance of machine rooms including replacing lighting, removing debris and general cleaning.
- Monitors and operates building automation systems.
- Performs routine daily inspections of the utility systems in assigned areas and records operational data. Interprets operational data and makes adjustments that improve performance/efficiency and/or resolve operational problems.
- Performs routine plumbing service calls, including repairing minor leaks, replacing fixtures, unclogging drains and replacing CO2 tanks.
- Maintains mechanical systems. Systems maintained include laboratory air systems, laboratory vacuum systems, sewage, steam and chilled water piping, pressure reducing stations, pumps, compressors and dryers.
- Performs routine electrical repair and installation work.
- Provides stakeholders with the status updates, issues, key activities and any changes to the scope of the overall project.
- Provides direction to other staff assigned to assist in the completion of tasks. Trains coworkers in the proper methods of completing trades work.
- High School Diploma, or equivalent
- Completion of HVAC or refrigeration trade school
- Approximately 5-7 years of experience in general maintenance in a large institution or commercial facility with complex infrastructure systems, of which a minimum of 3 years is in HVAC and/or refrigeration.
- Previous experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of central chiller plants equipped with electric centrifugal and steam absorption chillers.
- Maintains individual New York City certifications necessary for the operation of various utility systems.
- EPA Universal Refrigeration Technician Certification
- NYC issued Certificate of qualification for refrigerating system operating engineer.
- Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds and push/pull objects up to 100 pounds
- Full-Time
- Weekdays and some weekends
- Ability to work on off-shifts as required to accommodate on-going operations and/or emergencies
- Ability to be available for 24-hour emergency call-ins
