Job Summary
1836 Farms is a family-owned and operated organic dairy processing and distribution facility. The 1836 Farms family has a long and storied history of dairy farming starting with their great grandpa over 100 years ago in Switzerland. We have experience in bottling milk the old school way with old school practices using today’s technology. We also believe that milk in glass bottles is the healthiest and most ecological choice to maintain and sustain our environment, not only here in Texas, but across the U.S. 1836 Farms operates in a 39,500 square foot facility located just outside of Dallas in Terrell, TX. The Maintenance Technicianposition is responsible for performing highly diversified duties from waste water maintenance to machinery maintenance in the plant like install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive, and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site's business goals and objectives. This individual must be able to work as an individual contributor but also as a team to meet clean up and quality standards to minimize production downtime.
Duties and responsibilities
- Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility's equipment
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and company Safety programs, safe practices, lock-out tag- out, etc.
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
- Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.
- Completes predictive maintenance
- Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
- Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and makes adjustments.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.
- Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties
- Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Completes predictive maintenance methods, including vibration analysis, oil analysis, and thermography
- Provides alignment techniques and can supervise other technicians in installing and aligning motors, gear reducers, sheaves, and other drive components
- Able to troubleshoot electrical controls (motor circuits, process or packaging machinery, & programable controllers) using; drawings, documentation, and required tools such as computers, voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, process stimulators, communicators, and other electrical testing equipment
- Capable of restoring the stored back up program to a failed programable controller, basic module, operator interface, or any other programable device for process or packaging in use at our facility
- Calibrates all metering equipment in the plant, including K-ton weighing (or like systems) systems, Micromotion meters, sensing devices
- Responsible for following all GMP's Safety and Food Safety procedures
- Knowledge of high-speed pouching and form/fill and seal equipment preferred
Qualifications
· High School diploma or equivalent
· An AA degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial maintenance is preferred
· 4+ years of manufacturing experience; strong hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and industrial skills with some PLC experience and HVAC.
· Operate and learn the chemistry for waste water equipment
· Be able to work in a technical capacity with an ethical conduct
· Proficient in Communication, Results Driven, and takes self-Initiative.
· Knowledge of NEC (National Electric Code), ESWP (Electrical Safe Work Practices), MCC's substations and Transformers.
· Knowledge and Experience with FVD’s, Drives, and Electrical Motors
· 6 months related experience in food manufacturing, preferred
· Effective verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to read and write in English
· Ability to stand for a majority of the day
· Ability to lift heavy objects on a regular basis
· Self-motivated, shows initiative, and demonstrates the skill in multi-tasking
· Ability to work longer than normal shifts as needed
· Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and background screenings
Working conditions and Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, reach, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl , climb, and pivot turn while performing tasks. Must be able to lift, push and/or carry up 75 pounds. Stand for long periods of time and do repetitive tasks with few breaks. This position is very active.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Facility may incur temperature variation and other hazards as incurred in the food manufacturing and packaging process. May be exposed to loud noise from moving forklifts and production equipment. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
Requires wearing company uniform, with company provided hair net/beard net/safety cap, ear plugs, and other PPE when in production, warehouse, cooler and maintenance areas.
