The Manager, Public Programs manages and coordinates the Hammer's 200+ public programs each year; they include lectures, readings, symposia, film screenings, musical performances, and other events. Public programs are a signature feature of the Museum and provide a powerful platform for leveraging the power of art and ideas.Percentage of Time:

Required/Preferred
3 years of experience in managing and producing public facing programs, activities, or similar events.
Required
Prior cultural, arts, high education, and/or non-profit experience, and knowledge of museum and art world standards, practices, and procedures strongly preferred.
Preferred
Working knowledge of the technical aspect of event production; such as sound, lighting, recording, and projection.
Preferred
Proven skill and ability in producing programs and related activities that are highly organized, efficient, and professional.

Demonstrated ability to create effective relationships, influence, and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels.

Ability to discreetly and tactfully recognize and handle sensitive and confidential information.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to write correspondence, reports and published materials. Prior publication preferred.

Skill in negotiating, exchanging ideas, information, and opinions and arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions, or solutions. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact diplomatically and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships internally and externally.

Excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint/Keynote, Excel, FilemakerPro and Adobe Creative Suite.

Bachelor's degree in related field; graduate and continuing education work strongly preferred.

Ability to regularly work evenings (3-4 per week) and weekends.

Physical abilities to perform all core functions and duties including but not limited to the ability to talk; hear; see; sit for extended periods; stand for extended periods; walk; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; push; pull; reach; lift up to 30 pounds; manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and perform data entry; manual dexterity including but not limited to the ability to feel, finger, and/or grasp; color vision; depth perception; central and peripheral vision; close vision; distance vision; visual acuity to view a computer monitor for long periods; possession of a valid California driver's license and reliable means of transportation to facilitate late evening assignments.
