EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of medical assistant coursework and National examination.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTION:
The purpose and function of the medical assistant position in the skilled nursing facilities is to allow support in resident / patient care activities as it applies in their scope of practice. Assisting the clinical care team ( Nursing Assistant, RN and LPN ) with tasks elaborated below.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Respond to call bells utilizing proper infection control and resident privacy / dignity practices.
- Elevate any patient / resident concerns to proper clinical staff ( ie: pain, discomfort, etc )
- Assist nursing and culinary staff in meal preparation, delivery and cleanup of meal trays.
- Take patient vitals and report for documentation to nursing staff.
- Assist in securing medical appointments for patients and residents.
- Assist with securing transportation for appointments.
- Accompany resident / patient on medical appointment when appropriate.
- Perform EKG when requested / required / ordered.
- Assist with monitoring patients / residents fall risks in dayroom and common areas.
- Assist with performing post mortem care.
- Perform related and miscellaneous duties as directed in emergency situations.
- Transport patients / residents to / from activities, rehab and other areas within facility.
