The Certified Medical Assistant (MA) provides routine care for patients who present to New Horizon Family Health Services. The Certified Medical Assistant aids the Nursing Personnel and Providers as necessary.

DUTIES PERFORMED

  • All MA staff MUST wear the designated uniform in colors authorized by the organization.
  • Helps support the achievement of provider productivity goals.
  • Is responsible for daily patient phone messages.
  • Cares for patients in accordance with instructions given by MD/Charge Nurse/Clinical Coordinator.
  • Obtains patient’s vital signs, works up patients according to EHR processes.
  • Administers treatment as directed by the practitioner.
  • Administers injections under the supervision and orders of a Medical Doctor, Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant.
  • Performs duties per completion of MA / Lab Orientation Checklists.
  • Understands the purpose of and has a working knowledge of Patient Centered Medical Home concepts.
  • Works with Tracking and Task Management team members to track outcomes for referrals, hospitalizations, pap smears, vouchers and other required information supporting Patient Centered Medical Home guidelines.
  • Participates in in-service training opportunities as required.
  • Provides comfort and support to patients awaiting medical treatment / those having received medical attention.
  • Assists in the maintenance of clean and safe examining rooms.
  • Participates in CQI, other internal committees, special projects/observances or activities that promote improvements in organizational performance and/or advance the mission, goals and objectives of New Horizon Family Health Services.
  • Must hold all patient Protected Health Information (PHI) other patient personal information and agency information in confidence, in accordance with the attached Employee Confidentiality Statement.
  • Actively participates in and complies with all aspects of the NHFHS Corporate compliance Program, follow the Program Code of Conduct and obey all relevant laws, statutes, regulations and requirements applicable to Medicaid, Medicare and other State and Federal healthcare programs.
    • Preparing Charts for Well Child Visits by obtaining the vaccination history from the DHEC Immunization

    Registry: SIMON

    • Correctly obtains vaccinations / medications from the AccuVax Vaccine Management System
    • Administers vaccination injections / medications under the supervision and orders of a Medical Doctor, Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications

Education: Source: S.C. Code section 40-33-20, section 4A of the 1976 Code (Act 171, 2022)

Must be a graduate:

  • of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by the National Healthcareer Association, or its successor;
  • by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, or its successor;
  • by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or its successor;
  • or by any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

The accredited post-secondary medical assisting program must include:

  • courses in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, medical laboratory techniques, and clinical experience.

A Medical Assistant must maintain current certification from the certifying board of the:

  • American Association of Medical Assistants,
  • the National Center for Competency Testing,
  • the National Certification Medical Association,
  • American Medical Technologists,
  • or any other recognized certifying body approved by the Board of Medical Examiners.

MAs employed as such before July 15, 2022 who do not have the certification outlined above must achieve such certification by July 15, 2024.

Preferred:

One year or more experience in Pediatrics and Vaccinations

Required:

  • Must have a working knowledge of computer programs and professional construction of emails
  • Must demonstrate

  • following NHFHS policies and procedures regarding personal visits, cell phone usage and clocking-in on time according to your assigned shift
