Arconic is currently in search of Metallurgical Technician to join our Tennessee Operations Team in Alcoa, Tennessee.

The principal emphasis of this position is to provide the high degree of technical expertise needed in Finishing Operations to produce a quality product at a competitive cost. Based on his/her experience working with equipment, practices, customers and people, this person has responsibility for problem solving, developing, and controlling quality standards, fabricating practices, and instructing and training the operating and area technical personnel. He/she also may assist or coordinate in the design and developments of new technical processes/equipment to provide a quality product. This position makes critical decisions in a timely manner regarding acceptability of material for customer shipment or the scrap or rework requirements of WIP and Finished Goods inventory.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Disposition of non-conforming material.
  • First in help chain regarding product acceptability – routinely makes scrap vs. good material determination.
  • Supports operations need for investigation regarding traceability issues, manual clocking of lots as required, and salvaging lots (WIP to Finished Goods)
  • Supports Surface Quality Monitoring (SQM) system review, reliability, and reaction standards for TN Operations Finishing Operations as well as upstream production centers to ensure proper scrap disposition. This includes routine equipment maintenance, equipment operational availability, calibration, and defect mapping.
  • Responsible for training, coaching, and providing the first level of help chain support for production and maintenance personnel in Finishing Operations (remotely and on sight) in SQM and product and process acceptability standards.
  • System trouble shooting and repair in conjunction with pulls for support from SQM lab personnel or operating personnel.
  • In plant process monitoring to ensure standard practices and special instructions are being followed, including departmental quality systems implementation and auditing.
  • First in help chain for field service and customer support personnel needing process investigation and data sharing.
  • Ensures the traceability of all products through the Finishing Area. Problem solving, developing solutions, and implementing corrective actions for related quality concerns.
  • Implementation of ABS principles and problem solving A3s.
  • Participation in Kaizen events.
  • Quality and EHS related Human Performance coaching.
  • Managed Process Owner of final product width requirements. Maintains records and adjusts bias as required.
  • Maintain and store data and records including Finishing area quality procedures and documents needed to meet corporate, and customers’ specification requirements.
  • Assisting in development of APQP tools (FMEA, control plans, and reaction plans), TS16949 compliant procedures, VPM systems, and CQI-9 compliant practices.
  • Working as a team with other disciplines to minimize costs, optimize product quality, and achieve plant recovery and customer return goals.
  • Support Tennessee Operation safety goals. The incumbent must attend all personnel safety training.

Basic Qualifications
  • Associate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical/operational support role within a sheet producing plant or similar environment.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Quality control or technical support experience for hot rolling, cold rolling, or sheet heat treatment operations.
  • Experience with SQM systems.
  • Experience with automotive customers
  • SAP systems and WIN OE program or similar systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
